1970's Television
Nov. 15th, 2007 10:45 amI'm finally at work for the first time in nearly a week. It took a lot of effort to drag myself in here today, but so far so good. The coughing fits have almost stopped, which is a good sign.
During the last few days, I have been watching a lot of TV Land and Hallmark Channel, finding myself enthralled by, of all things, The Waltons. This show started just before I was born and I admit I found it too dull to watch as young kid. While chatting with a local friend, I brought this up yesterday. He laughed and said it couldn't compete with Little House on the Prairie. A fun discussion ensued after that. Though I watched Little House as a kid, I thought The Waltons was actually better written and more realistic. The whole town could burn down in Walnut Grove and everyone would be smiling at the end, where everyone on Walton's Mountain may be in bed that night, but the lesson wasn't always so rosy.
So being somewhat of a fan of 1970's TV, I created a poll for fun. It's behind the cut to save space. Commentary is always welcome :)

Date: 2007-11-15 04:41 pm (UTC)I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well and this is the first time I've acknowledged it. Take care of yourself and take as much time as you need. The last year I worked I was sick on at least 3 separate occassions. Now that I'm not in an office with other sick people who are forcing themselves to come to work because our culture frowns on being off work for being sick, I haven't come down with anything. Of course, now I've just jinxed that by saying it out loud.

Date: 2007-11-15 05:15 pm (UTC)I never cared much for MASH, but I had the serious hots for BJ Hunnicut during his 70's mustache years on the show. That stache was hot.
I loved all the Charlie's Angels years... but have to admit, the Tanya Roberts year was so horrible and campy it may actually be my favorite. They spent the whole year in Hawaii it seemed and... she wasn't a cop, she was a model, how can you beat that??? I loved the opening... Kelly and Kris in cop school learning cop things... and Julie Rogers learning to balance a book on her head. hehehehe

Date: 2007-11-15 05:47 pm (UTC)As for Charlie's Angels, I have to admit that I didn't like Tanya Roberts. When the broke the three former-cop rule, I lost interest. I missed Sabrina. The smartest of the three supposedly and the poor woman was stuck driving a Ford Pinto! :)

Date: 2007-11-15 05:55 pm (UTC)sigh... and the BJ stache... one of my earliest I want that man-stache memories, along with Burt Reynolds, Robert Redford (a red stache), and Perry King (a blonde stache!!!). OHHHH... and Lee Horsely. OH OH OH, and Lee Majors all stached and furry chested. sigh... I miss those 70s staches.

Date: 2007-11-15 06:53 pm (UTC)The only reason I voted for it was because in later seasons there was a handsome, daddy bear with a gravely voice and big bushy beard that I had the hots for as a kid. And that was before I knew why I was attracted to him.

Date: 2007-11-16 06:32 am (UTC)Where are all the big, burly strapping bears in today's TV?

Date: 2007-11-16 12:11 pm (UTC)I think there needs to be a bear revival on TV.

Date: 2007-11-15 10:27 pm (UTC)I have always liked MASH. I can play that tune in my head forever. Radar was so cute in that show too. He was so timid, but he knew that camp and how it works like the back of his hand. Reminds of me? I dunno.
Never did take to Charlie's Angels.

Date: 2007-11-16 12:19 am (UTC)M*A*S*H was one of my dad's favorite shows, but as a kid I didn't enjoy it. Then I hit puberty and the show started to make sense :D
