Date: 2006-03-08 07:32 pm (UTC)your take on the the straight/gay issue of nature vs nurture, considering your particular circumstances.
I recall an Oprah episode on identical twins....one straight, one gay. I didn't actually see it. just an advertisement for it.

Date: 2006-03-08 11:13 pm (UTC)My opinion on the nature versus nurture idea is that it is a bit of both. In the case of identical twins, where one twin is gay and one is not seems to be evidence that it is not entirely genetic or else both would have the same orientation. I personally think that it is a genetic disposition for a person to be gay and that some environmental factors during development makes the gay orientation dominant. I do not think that a persons orientation can be changed by counseling or any other mumbo-jumbo. Obviously, it's open for debate.

Date: 2006-03-09 01:30 am (UTC)I recently read an article that suggests that the genetic inclination to be gay may be related to a series of genes that may or may not be activated on the X chromosome of a gay man. Since the X chromosome comes from the mother, psychologists can have a field day as we may be able to blame Mom for everything. :D

Date: 2006-03-08 11:31 pm (UTC)My perfect date is low-key. I think a nice meal at a restaurant, good conversation, maybe a play or a movie, followed by a great walk on a crystal clear evening just talking and feeling the chemistry.

Re: Only one ;)
Date: 2006-03-09 01:26 am (UTC)I think there has to be some physical attraction. Not to be shallow, but I think that is often where things start when two people are attracted to one another. I am attracted to body hair and facial hair obviously. Generally, there is something about a man's eyes that I find drawing me in. It's not a shape of the eye or the color necessarily, but an expressiveness that I see in them. I do like a man's chest to be furry and I do like him to have a bit of meat on his bones, as too thin tends to turn me off (we're still in the physical realm here).
As for the more meaningful aspects of the man, I enjoy a good sense of humor, someone with some similar interests and some not-so-similar, as I would want to experience new things. He would have to be a somewhat independent person, not needing another person to become complete as much as wanting another person to share in his life. He would have to be stable and happy with his work (to at least the extent most of us are). He would be intelligent, but not necessarily book smart. Ideally, he would be someone who could have a good constructive argument with me, but could also appreciate the absurd and southern humor.
Good heavens... this seems like a lot...

Date: 2006-03-09 01:02 am (UTC)Re: Question ?
Date: 2006-03-09 01:38 am (UTC)I've been told I am very nice, but like any human being I have my faults as well. I even recognize some of them :D
As for dating a 50-year-old man, the answer is... maybe. As many of my friends know (and my posts suggest) I am attracted to the daddy bear crowd. It's not the age that draws me specifically, but rather the graying beard that accompanies many a mature man.
I have been told that one can never help who they fall in love with and I do believe that is true. While the age difference would be a concern, it may be one of the few hurdles in an otherwise good relationship. Mind you, I do not look for a daddy-son relationship as I'm way too independent for that sort of thing.
Many a person, my mom included, have labeled me an old soul, as I often have not acted like a typical kid even when I was a kid. I have felt comfortable in the company of mature people and have never had a problem with them. It often does make me wonder if this isn't my first go around in life.

Date: 2006-03-09 12:55 pm (UTC)Going back, I would have to say the car wreck I had back in January 1994. I was leaving my sister's apartment and driving down an unfamiliar road. I thought I was on the main road and sped up only to find out that I was driving to a three way stop with no stop sign. With no road in front of me, I slammed on the breaks and tried to turn, ended up going down a 50 foot embankment and slamming into a concrete barrier next to a building.
I wasn't really hurt, just scared the crap out of me. The car was a lost cause (my first car). The ironic thing was that the building was an EMT service.
That was a very expensive lesson in my life, having to buy another car while still paying for the first one as I only had liability at the time.
