A Conversation with Mom

I'm in my hometown for the week, visiting family and friends after my long travels. I'm finding out that Mom is getting a bit "cute" in her old age. She's been harrassing my sister about her weight. My sis has always been very tiny, but after having my nephew, kept a bit of the weight. She's not fat by any stretch, but she's a lot curvier than she used to be. Mom, who has always been a thin woman, is hurting my sis' feelings with these comments.

Last night, I went to Mom's to show her my trip pictures. While there, she was telling me about the son of one of the folks in her building who recently passed away. The son is there tending to his mom's affairs. She said he reminds her of me, not in looks, but in actions: (in her words) he's a loner, has no real need for anyone, loves to draw and cook and read, hates crowds, has no use for foolishness, doesn't date much, is work-driven, and is short with people when he's frustrated. Uh... okay, was that supposed to be complimentary??

I think Mom's medication has turned off her tactfulness switch. And for the record, I'm betting the guy is gay too.

OMG! I certainly hope not. Mom isn't terribly comfortable with my being gay, so I seriously doubt she'd try to play matchmaker... at least I hoped she wouldn't.. (shiver)

Plus the guy is in his mid-fifties..
