I finished the weekend driving home and then mowing the yard. I hate to admit this, but I started a dreaded low carb diet last night.

I'm a little chunky guy, I know, and I honestly find a stocky man attractive, but I have health concerns that I need to address now. My dad was built like me, maybe a bit heavier, and he developed adult-onset diabetes, high blood pressure, and a stroke, all of which eventually led to his demise a few years ago. All of his doctors said that his weight contributed to it and warned my mom that if any of her kids were built the same way to watch out for him. Well, out of five kids, I'm the only one.

The idea of losing weight is a good one. I'm not looking for washboard abs (although a nicer, bigger chest would be nice). I hope to drop 30 lbs. I plan on hitting the gym a bit more too. This is day one. Here we go....

Hmmm... bitchy, huh? Many of my coworkers may not realize the difference. I take it you've been through this yourself. I'm finishing day one and feeling pretty good so far, even went to the gym. The hardest part is going to be eating out. I travel a lot and making my lunch would be hard.

Yeah...it'll probably hit you in a few days...of course how bad it'll be depends on how many carbs you're used to right now. You'll not feel all that great for a few days and then all of a sudden you'll be feeling better than ever as your body switches what it burns for fuel.

Eating out isn't that bad really, unless you're into alot of fast food. When I was doing it I'd just get a burger with no bun or a steak or some such and then substitute in some extra veggies for whatever the carb-du-jour was. I did it in the spring of 99 when the low-carb thing was still being touted as dangerous by the mainstream. Now that the diet has been proven safe restaurants are alot more likley to allow for low-carb substitutions.

The biggest pain is having to give up sandwiches of all types...they're so easy to eat, particularly in the car and all of a sudden you can't.
