I finished the weekend driving home and then mowing the yard. I hate to admit this, but I started a dreaded low carb diet last night.

I'm a little chunky guy, I know, and I honestly find a stocky man attractive, but I have health concerns that I need to address now. My dad was built like me, maybe a bit heavier, and he developed adult-onset diabetes, high blood pressure, and a stroke, all of which eventually led to his demise a few years ago. All of his doctors said that his weight contributed to it and warned my mom that if any of her kids were built the same way to watch out for him. Well, out of five kids, I'm the only one.

The idea of losing weight is a good one. I'm not looking for washboard abs (although a nicer, bigger chest would be nice). I hope to drop 30 lbs. I plan on hitting the gym a bit more too. This is day one. Here we go....

Thanks for the info. I'll have to keep my eye open for the low carb show on the food network. So far, I've not really missed things, but this is day one! Most restaurants have a low carb menu now. My biggest problem is going to be cooking at home.

As for pop, I gave up regular soda in January and have been on diet drinks since then. Diet Rite is pretty good, it uses a new sweetener called Splenda, which is actually a sugar derivative, that doesn't have that nasty after taste. Diet Coke with Lime is really good too, the lime gives it a little bit of a kick and it seems to cover some of the after taste as well.

Yes, Splenda. It is making a big splash in this low-carb thing.

The name of the tv program is "Low Carb and Lovin' it". Last nights show was meatloaf, then deep fried chicken and onion rings. Not an onion fan here, but nthe chicken looked really good. Now if they can do low carb potato's....

Splenda is actually sugar, just chemically altered so that your body can't absorb it. Splenda is a wonderful thing, and something that my family has used for a couple years (though I'm still a sugar fiend)
