So a couple of coworkers and I went to Bob Evans for lunch. It's a regular place we hit, because it satisfies multiple pallets.

I ordered a stuffed omelet, telling the server that I didn't want the hollandaise sauce that it came with. My coworkers' orders came and the server told me that she noticed that the sauce was added, so she told the kitchen to remake it.

Now, I've made omelets. They don't take long, seriously. This one seemed to take a while. So much so that my coworkers were done and our lunch period was ticking away fast. So she brings it back, apologizing profusely. I see this buttery dripping around the edge of the omelet. I taste it and recognize it for the sauce I didn't want. I lift up the edge and find the whole bottom of the omelet covered in it.

It was the first omelet. I'm convinced of it.

The kitchen apparently took the mistake, scrapped off what they could, flipped it over, and covered it with cheese and sent it back out. Why THAT took so damn long I have no idea.

I told the server that I didn't want it and had her remove it from the bill. She apologized again. Lunch time was over and I had to get the coworkers back to the office.

Lunch was a protein bar from my desk. Bah!

ARRRGH!

That sucks. And I would have chewed my arm off with only a protein bar.

I hate when restaurants do that crap. I had sent back crab cakes a few months ago at our local bar and grill--they burnt the bottoms to an absolute blackened crisp and then tried to hide it with the sauce.

I never can understand why they do it. To me, the restaurant is taking a chance of alienating a customer. I'd rather a server tell me that they screwed up and make it right, than to have me tell her that the food is inedible because it was burnt.

That is very poor service indeed! Worse, you were left hungry!

I agree. Worse, even when I told the server, she said she was sorry, but gave nothing else. She did charge me for the diet soda I drank, which is fine as I did drink it, but since I was leaving without lunch, I'm surprised she didn't comp it.

Thank heavens for protein bars.

I would have asked to speak to a manager immediately. That kind of service is completely unacceptable.

You can still follow up on this today.

I might. I do try to give the benefit of the doubt to a restaurant. We've been there several times in the past without incident, so I don't want to use one bad experience to prevent me in going back.

However, that said, they really need to have a talk with the cooking staff. As one of my coworkers pointed out in regards to my "fixed" meal, "if they'll do that, I wonder what happens when they drop something on the floor..."

LOL... I'm watching my figure. Sadly, I'm actually watching it expand. The sauce is mostly butter, which just didn't sound appetizing on eggs to me.

At least you got food, even if it wasn't as you ordered it. My last experience at a Red Robin found us with a tepid appetizer and no meal after 45 min. As we were leaving, the manager ran up, apologized profusely, went to set up complimentary gift cards, got distracted and never did get back to us.

The good news is that we didn't spend a dime.
