TV Watchin'

I'm not much into most TV shows these days. My usual disdain for reality TV is still present (with a few exceptions). Even the raved about shows, like "The Big Bang Theory," I often catch in repeats more than the new episodes. However, there are a few shows I find myself making time for:

• "Being Human" on the SyFy Channel. I stopped watching it mid-second season, but caught up and am watching the third season now. Things are getting creepier now with the goings-on between a vampire, werewolf, and ghost roommates. I've never watched the UK version, but I like the North American version. I think the actors are cuter anyway.
  
  
• "Bunheads" on ABC Family. This show cracks me up. It's by the same creator of the "Gilmore Girls," and has many of the same stars as the odd town folks. It's the story of a Vegas showgirl and Broadway-dancer hopeful who spontaneously marries an admirer and meets his mother, a retired dancer herself (Kelly Bishop AKA Emily Gilmore). The son dies in a car accident and leaves the dance studio and property to his new wife who now is a partner with her mother-in-law. The machine gun banter is still there along with the quirkiness I enjoyed with the Gilmores.
  
  
• "Elementary" on CBS. I really do enjoy this updated Sherlock Holmes and I think Lucy Liu as former surgeon Dr. Jane Watson is an interesting twist. The chemistry between them is pretty fun to watch, and I find the mysteries pretty inventive.
  
  "Snapped" on Oxygen. Women who kill, essentially. I think there is a still an odd fascination that women can't be murderers. And strangely, most of the women end up killing off a husband or lover that I think is pretty cute. Not sure what that's about.
  
  
• "RuPaul's Drag Race" on Logo. Do I really need to explain this one??
  
  
• "Futurama" on Comedy Central. I can never get enough of this show. I saw the "Neutopia" episode last night, which is a favorite. I even got a pic of the scene that makes me laugh the most behind the cut. It might be slightly non-work-safe.

So what do you watch? What should I be watching? I hear the hype, but personal opinions are much better.

I've been cutting back a bit on TV lately, so I'm not the watch-all-the-time viewer I used to be. I think a lot of scripted dramas have fallen off my radar because they're predictable (sorry, I know you like "NCIS"), soap operas ("Revenge"), ridiculous ("The Vampire Diaries") or just becoming a chore to watch ("Supernatural").

I used to love "Futurama", then it was cancelled and I got out of the habit of watching it. The movies as filler were awkward enough to turn me off continue following. Not sure if the new seasons since are worth it, I haven't heard anything.

I've seen the first three seasons of the UK version of "Being Human", and liked it, but I haven't seen any of the US version. Its one of those shows that I'm in no hurry to keep up with.

Current viewing favorites:

• "The Good Wife" - Legal drama. Strengths: Continuity, great guest actors, complex characters: they don't always act Nice and they aren't always Bad. Start at the beginning.

• "Fringe" - a great sci-fi show which began strangely reminiscent of the X-Files... then grew into its own. "Doctor Who" and the first three seasons of "Torchwood" are also awesome.

• "Top Chef" is the only reality show I watch these days, since I think I've given up on Project Runaway (seriously, team challenges?)

• "Community" - I am thrilled to see it returning next week! Between that and "Big Bang Theory", I've got most of my comedy tv down for now!

• "Downton Abbey" - I know British period dramas really aren't everyone's cup of tea. Its also lead me to see "Wallander"

Am in the middle of "Psych", which is OK. Same for "Warehouse 13". No great stretch, they're neither of them "Battlestar Galactica" or "Buffy" or "Gilmore Girls" or "Veronica Mars".

However, I did catch the first half-season of "Arrow" and liked it. Not really certain if I'll keep up with it. And I'm in the middle of the first season of "Game of Thrones", which I DO like.

Edit: Oh, I can't forget "Family Guy". So. Fucking. Wrong. (Often.)

LOL! I think "Downtown Abbey" might be one I might need to look at, as everyone seems to rave about it.
