Geez, where did the weekend go...?

After work and a run, I joined Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub) and his BF for a showing of "Bully" at the local arthouse theater. The documentary is an interesting chronicle of today's bullying issues in schools and I wont deny that it brought up a lot of memories for me. The one person in the movie who irritated me the most was the school principal, who lives in a f*cking dream world. She made a bully shake hands with the kid he's bullying and then chastised the bullied kid for not wanting to shake hands with him afterward. "He's sorry," she said to the bullied kid. No he wasn't lady, the bully played you and you were ignorant enough to buy it. She then tells the parents who saw video of their son being hit by another student while on the bus that the kids on that bus are "angels."

Saturday was morning house cleaning (which the house sorely needed) and then a trip to see "The Cabin in the Woods". I loved it. I wont give any of it away, but I thought it was an interesting mix of old school horror movies with some interesting twists. I can definitely see Joss Whedon's writing in this, a bit of humor here and a bit of conspiracy there.

Sunday was working out, laundry and yard work. Meh. Now that I've dug up my dandelion infested flour flower (jeez did I really type that) bed, I need to figure out what to plant in it.

Happy Monday y'all.

UGH... I may wait to see bully until it's on DVD. I don't want to sit in the theater full of memories and anger. Just your description of that prinicipal scene makes my blood boil (but not in a full on Red Lantern way LOL)

I'm glad Cabin in the Woods was good. I really do want to go see that one.

I think you'll enjoy both in different ways. Bully is good, but it does stir up old feelings and memories that aren't always fun.

And Cabin in the Woods just cleans the mental pallet, especially when you need some good scary stuff.

Glad you liked that Cabin film-I do want to see it, I figure that will happen on DVD on movie night with the boys. I'm terrible at seeing films in a theater. I do not know why.

What do you mean by being terrible at seeing films in a theater? Do you just not like it?

Given the prices they charge nowadays, I can see it being an expensive visit if you're just not into that setting.

I like seeing films in theaters, I'm just terrible at getting around to doing it!

I used to see films all the time. Over the years, my habit of going just stopped.

I figured you'd like "The Cabin in the Woods" ...is it really a frightening movie? disturbing gore? the kind of stuff that inspires nightmares? I'm interested because those are all reasons I won't go see it - it would ruin my sleep for weeks. "My speed" for horror flics is something like "Poltergeist", which was clever, suspenseful, slightly creepy ...but not nightmare-inducing.

Thanks for the comments on "Bully" ... I haven't seen it yet, though I wonder if it'll only make me boil over with rage and frustration. I worry also that it's a film that'll only be seen by "the choir".

"The Cabin in the Woods" has some gory bits and can startle you in some scenes, but it also has some interesting plot points and better than average acting. I'm not sure it's nightmare-inducing as I have a high tolerance for such things.

And I fear you're right in that only the bullied will likely see "Bully." I would be curious if anyone who engages in bullying activities would see a bit of themselves in the movie or recognize what they're doing as such.

Thanks for the assessment of the film ... creatures and horrific images creep me out more than actions - so, well see. I have heard reports that 'Cabin' is a sophisticated, brainy 21st century entry in the genre.

Completely looking forward to Cabin in the Woods being released here - it's being overshadowed by Whedon's other, lesser-known project, The Avenging-something-whatevers?? ;)
But I've only heard good things about it :)
