I posted this back in 2008. It was my first attempt at comic book drawing, before I learned to use the Comic Life software draw the panels. My friends Thom and Jay were adopting a young boy about the time I was considering the origin of Grizzly and the idea just came together. My idea was that two men could provide the DNA to create a biological child of their own. It seemed like a neat way to start up an origin and even leave a bit of mystery in the story.
So I created this story with a bear couple, Thom and Jay, who had a baby boy through unknown means. This kid grew up to develop super powers. I printed out the story to give to the guys and they loved it.
I was chatting with Thom last night and sent him the link to the latest Bear Patrol issue. He asked if I ever posted the Grizzly origin story. I had, but only as a friends-only post. So that's why this repost (and so anyone new to my journal can see it too).

Love the use of monochrome in places, not to mention details like "BARMAID" across his shirt.
Congrats - a very satisfying episode!
