Consumer Advice Needed -- Vacuum Cleaners

Hey all,

I am contemplating buying a new vacuum cleaner. Having Murphy and Maggie shedding all over creation has all but killed my last one and it's on last legs anyway. I've been looking at several that are specific to pet cleaning, but don't want to spend $500 on a Dyson (it's a vacuum cleaner, not a iTouch for heaven's sake!) Have any of you found a good bagless vacuum that works well for you, especially if you have pets at home? Just curious.

Watch Target clearances. We got lucky and got a Dyson there for half off the original price. It was after Christmas, and they had originally marked them down by 30%, but we watched every day and waited until they went down one more discount level.

This was stuff thay they red-sticker and put on one of the small endcaps to the regular aisles, instead of being on display with the regular display of vacuums.
