Christmas Tree 2007Every since I moved out of the house to go to college, I have not put up a Christmas tree. In the dorm, there was no room and after I graduated it just never really occurred to me to do it. I travel to my hometown for the holidays and usually there was no one to see the tree but me. I've often said that it wouldn't be more than a large cat toy for Murphy now.

Yesterday, after work, my neighbor was stringing up more house lights outside for the holidays and I realized that mine was almost the only house without any Christmas decorations (with the exception of the frat boys across the street). On the way home today, I decided to stop and buy a fake Christmas tree. I have no idea why, but I thought I'd give it a go.

When I got home and started assembling the mess from new stuff I'd bought and old stuff I had, I remembered how much I really didn't like the chore of putting the tree up. I guess that gene passed me by. My sister and mom were always the ones big on it. I always admired it from the "oooh, pretty lights" perspective, especially when the lights were out. I do like the blue bulbs though, I've had them for years.

Well, this is it. I think I've bought enough for this year, but it obviously needs more stuff. I wonder if it will stand the test of the night and survive the almost certain feline onslaught Murphy the 15 lb tomcat will wage while I'm sleeping.

I did turn the lights out in the living room to take a peak though.

Christmas Tree in the Dark

Aw ... it looks great, Mark! I don't know what it is about blue lights at Christmas, but I always think they look so pretty.

D and I compromised and bought a fake tree with those handy built-in lights a couple of years back. We both love real ones, but he HATED putting the lights on (I'm sorta' picky about HOW they go on and since HE was the one putting them on and not me, I can't say that I blame him) and I HATED the tree hanging around for months afterwards if we missed the one-day-and-one-day-only pick up in Germany.

Surprisingly, Eenie wants nothing to do with either tree. Not even the ornaments. She just can't be bothered. Laziest kitty ever. ;)

I like the blue lights. I wanted a white tree for it, but I couldn't find one.

I'm shocked that Eenie wont play with the tree, you'd think she'd go after the shiny objects :)
