Christmas Tree 2007Every since I moved out of the house to go to college, I have not put up a Christmas tree. In the dorm, there was no room and after I graduated it just never really occurred to me to do it. I travel to my hometown for the holidays and usually there was no one to see the tree but me. I've often said that it wouldn't be more than a large cat toy for Murphy now.

Yesterday, after work, my neighbor was stringing up more house lights outside for the holidays and I realized that mine was almost the only house without any Christmas decorations (with the exception of the frat boys across the street). On the way home today, I decided to stop and buy a fake Christmas tree. I have no idea why, but I thought I'd give it a go.

When I got home and started assembling the mess from new stuff I'd bought and old stuff I had, I remembered how much I really didn't like the chore of putting the tree up. I guess that gene passed me by. My sister and mom were always the ones big on it. I always admired it from the "oooh, pretty lights" perspective, especially when the lights were out. I do like the blue bulbs though, I've had them for years.

Well, this is it. I think I've bought enough for this year, but it obviously needs more stuff. I wonder if it will stand the test of the night and survive the almost certain feline onslaught Murphy the 15 lb tomcat will wage while I'm sleeping.

I did turn the lights out in the living room to take a peak though.

Christmas Tree in the Dark

*regresses to a kid* ... ooooh.. pretty lights....

I've long had the same feelings towards a Christmas tree. Why put one up when I was the only person who would see it? This year, I decided to give it a go anyway.

The ceramic tree sounds really cool. I think my mom or my sister has one of those :)

My sister's ceramic tree has small holes through it and little clear plastic birds that fit in them so they light up when the tree is turned on. It's pretty cool.

And I'm usually in shorts all summer, so I'll try to send you more :)

I always found a small tree and some special decorations help with the mood. I think your tree is beautiful and I'm sure Murphy will "respect" it.

Thanks! Luckily, it was still standing this morning. When I came downstairs there were no missing ornaments or anything, though Murphy was cowering beneath the tree. I told him I wasn't comfortable seeing that :)

I would/will always put enough lights on a tree to strain the most robust power grid. I must have been a moth in a former life.

Oooh pretty lights!

Can you set up a webcam aimed at the fratboys' house?

Actually only one of the three fratboys is cam-worthy in my opinion and he only goes shirtless in the summer.

Aw ... it looks great, Mark! I don't know what it is about blue lights at Christmas, but I always think they look so pretty.

D and I compromised and bought a fake tree with those handy built-in lights a couple of years back. We both love real ones, but he HATED putting the lights on (I'm sorta' picky about HOW they go on and since HE was the one putting them on and not me, I can't say that I blame him) and I HATED the tree hanging around for months afterwards if we missed the one-day-and-one-day-only pick up in Germany.

Surprisingly, Eenie wants nothing to do with either tree. Not even the ornaments. She just can't be bothered. Laziest kitty ever. ;)

I like the blue lights. I wanted a white tree for it, but I couldn't find one.

I'm shocked that Eenie wont play with the tree, you'd think she'd go after the shiny objects :)
