Okay, I'm bored.. Answer me this:
  1. What was the first book you remember enjoying as a child?
  2. What websites do you visit regularly?
  3. What was your favorite childhood game?
  4. What three shows would you love to see un-canceled?
  5. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

My Answers

  1. The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Paterson. I remember this book from 7th grade and thought it was hilarious, wickedly funny and catty. The book jacket was one of the best attractants, a drawing of a girl blowing a huge bubble on the front and that same girl with a burst bubble gum splat on her face on the back. I should buy this one.
  2. I go to Bear411 (NWS!) and Livejournal daily. I also enjoy looking through Wikipedia for random stuff of interest.
  3. Though we usually played kickball (part baseball/part soccer/part dodgeball) in the yard, I was always a bigger fan of tag.
  4. Here are my three...

    • Dead Like Me -- I've posted about this show a lot lately, love it.
    • Remember WENN -- a period comedy about life in a 1940's radio station, back when they had serials and musical shows broadcast by studio actors.
    • Cupid -- Jeremy Piven as the god of love (sigh)

  5. Though I am often at work early in the morning, I am actually more prone to staying up late. I force myself to go to bed at night out of necessity. When I'm drawing or working on something, I generally do better work in the late evening/early morning hours.

1. Barbapapa. It's out of print or I would have bought a copy for myself by now.
2. cnn.com, livejournal.com, yahoo.com, cuteoverload.com, stuffonmycat.com, gay.com, npr.org, bbc.co.uk, skyscraperpage.com, madonna.com, madonnalicious.com, homestarrunner.com
3. Red Rover. I kicked ASS.
4. Firefly, The X-Files, and the Ben Stiller Show.
5. Night Owl. Rowr.

1: Go, Dog, Go! by P.D. Eastman
2: There are a SHITLOAD of online newspaper editorial pages I visit almost every day. And of course I spend an inordinate amount of time at LiveJournal. And I never miss the Astronomy Photo of the Day (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html).
3: There's a card game called Casino that my family used to enjoy together when I was a child. There was a board game called Careers that I was rather fond of. Kickball was a neighborhood favorite in the court our family lived next to, circa 1965-1974.
4: "My So-Called Life," "Cybil," "Frasier."
5: I'm an early-bird for the most part. Definitely NOT a night-owl anymore, as often happens as one gets up in years. I prefer more leisurely mornings drinking coffee and reading the newspaper, rather than rushing around getting ready for work. So I have my clock-radio set for 5:00am, will often drift in and out of sleep listening to the BBC newshour, then I'm usually up and out of bed by 6:00am.

OMG I LOVED Careers! I always went for hearts.

And thumbs-up on Cybil! Christine Baranski made "Doctor Dick" more than just a friday night goal...

Oh I love Baranski, she was the reason to watch that show :)

1. The first book I enjoyed reading: The Mysterious Island. I had originally read the "Illustrated Classic" version in kindergarten or first grade, and checked out the book book a few years after that. It got me onto a Jules Verne kick which is the reason I enjoy sci-fi/fantasy books so much.

2. Wesites I visit regularly: Bear411 and livejournal. I also enjoy reading wikipedia, salon.com, the bbc news page, anandtech.com, aintitcoolnews.com, silverbulletcomics.com, gamespy.com, penny-arcade.com. yeah, i'm addicted.

3. My favorite childhood game: dodgeball. It was one of the gym activities I really enjoyed. Either that, or volley ball as a close second.

4. Shows to uncancel? Firefly, Wonderfalls and Babylon 5: Crusade.

5. I am both an early morning person and a night owl. I am *not* a 2pm to 6pm sort of guy though. LOL.

Not a 2 PM to 6 PM guy? Is that when the caffeine begins to wear off??? :)

I almost always get a "food coma" after lunch. I used to think it was just the untreated apnea, but even now I'll have something of a lull.

Low glycaemic index (GI) foods can help reduce this effect, they produce a slower rise in blood sugar levels and help to reduce that post lunch peak which can make you tired.

  1. Freckle Juice by Judy Blume. I really don't remember much of anything about this book, but it started my obsession with reading. My best friends' mom took me with them to the library and let me take the book out on her library card (I didn't have one). After I read that, I wanted more, so my mom got me my own library card, and the rest is history. :)

  2. LJ (of course) and my EQ2 guild's message boards.

  3. I used to play Superfriends with a couple of my aunt's neighbor kids when I'd visit. I usually chose to be Green Lantern. :)

  4. Lets see....

    • Wonderfalls - such a great show. I want it back!

    • Odyssey 5 - a scifi show from Showtime about 5 astronauts who witness the destruction of Earth from the space shuttle Odyssey. An alien sends their minds back in time 5 years to inhabit their younger bodies. Their mission is to find out and stop whatever blew up the Earth, which also destroyed the alien's homeworld. Sadly, it only lasted one season and ended with annoying cliffhangers because of it.

    • Leap Years - another cable show canceled after one season. It was about 5 friends over 15 years time. The show would flash back and forth in time between 3 time periods - 1993, 2001, and 2008. It was interesting because you'd see how things changed between the periods and have to wait till later episodes to find out how (like, at the beginning of the show, one character is straight in 1993, but gay in 2001 and 2008. Later on in the season, he realizes he's gay in 1993. And for those who watch The 4400, that actor is the guy who played Matthew, the guy who worked with Isabelle and Shawn).

  5. Definitely a night owl. I often have trouble staying up really late, but that's because I have to be up early. My preference is to get up late and stay up late. Perky morning people annoy me.

Morning people annoy me too, the person next to me is one and his cheery singing to himself makes me nauseous....

Cheery singing in the morning? That merits stabbing.

Hey -- didn't you JUST get into Dead Like Me -- I'm just saying. Maybe if you watched it while it was on the air..... (totally teasing).

1. Aside from the Dr. Seuss' and other kid books I think your going with full novels.

Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume made me laugh out loud.

2. Livejournal, bear411 to chat, televisionwithoutpity for tv stuff, perezhilton for gossip

3. Outdoors it was hide and seek, indoors I use to love playing Concentration the board game.

4. This means regardless of whether or not it was cancelled before it's time or had a long run right? Then I'm going with Match Game, Soap and Popular. I'll throw in Buffy if it was more about Willow and they kill off Xander (or as I call him el useless filler taking up time on my screen)

5. Neither -- I'm an afternoon guy I think. I prefer to wake up around 9am and laze a bit but I don't like staying up beyond midnight. But I'm generally an active person between Noon and 7pm.

LOL.. I know I just started watching DLMe, but it was on Showtime and I couldn't justify paying the extra money for a show I couldn't preview first.

And I really liked Match Game, I catch it on the Game Show Network here sometimes.

1. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. It is still to this day my favorite book.
2. myspace.com (to keep up with my Omaha peeps), livejournal, bear411 and then of course all of my e-mail address sites.
3. Dodgeball and Red Light/Green Light.
4. Firefly, I could have gone for one more season of Alias and um, I can't think of anything else lol.
5. I tend towards night owl, although I don't always get to be one.

3. Marbles. Jacks. Tetherball. Volleyball.
4. Square Pegs. The Midnight Special. Later with Jools Holland.
5. Yes. All depends ... I function well in both. Lean more to the nigh owl thing though.

1- I loved reading as a kid. So there are lots of children's books that I would put on my list. But I do remember that my first "adult" book was The Amityville Horror. I read that in 4th grade, the year it came out. (It is funny, but I was turned on to it by the nuns at my school. They actually read selections of it to show that evil does exist in the world!)

2- My Yahoo News page and playbill.com

3- Clue! (Duh!)

4- I really loved It's All Relative. I really think it deserved a second season.

5- Morning person. Without a doubt. (Of course, I'm partnered with a night owl!)
