I'm still coming up with ideas for photo scavenger hunt I posted about a month or so ago -- deciding on how many items, what kinds of items, rules, scoring, etc. Hopefully, I'll have something out on that soon. I plan a prize of a $25 online gift certificate to Borders or Amazon or something. Any comments or suggestios would be appreciated.

Here is a joke a friend sent me many months ago. I though it was cute.
They were together in the house...
...Just the two of them...
It was a cold, dark, stormy night. The storm had come quickly
and each time the thunder boomed he watched her jump.
She looked across the room and admired his strong appearance...and wished that he would take her in his arms, comfort her and protect her from the storm.
She wanted that...more than anything.
Suddenly, with a pop, the power went out... She screamed...
He raced to the sofa where she was cowering.
He didn't hesitate to pull her into his arms.
He knew this was a forbidden union and expected her to pull back.
He was surprised when she didn't resist but instead clung to him.
The storm raged on...as did their growing passion. And there came a moment when each knew that they had to be together.
They knew it was wrong...
Their families would never understand...
So consumed were they in their passion that they heard no opening
of doors...
...just the faint click of a camera......

Here are some random questions for fun:
- What is your favorite family redneck moment?
- Which Golden Girl are you most like -- Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, or Sophia?
- What was the worst movie you ever sat through?
- If you were guaranteed success no matter what major or subject you studied in school, what would you have picked?
- Where would we be without the internet?
My Answers
- When my older brother Ron came home to visit one summer years ago. He pulled his car into the yard and had this trashy bleached blonde chick with him. Both were carrying large white styrofoam cups that you could smell liquor in. Ron told me with pride that he'd finally picked a good one because, and I quote: "She's been fixed, I can't knock this one up." It was charming... I knew then how truly redneck the family was. :)
- Sadly, I'm often Dorothy -- too practical for my own good and usually dateless.
- Ugh! If you consider the length of the movie and horrible, stream-of-consciousness feel to it, I'd have to say The Thin Red Line. And it was Oscar nominated for best picture... For really bad movies, I'd go with Cabin Fever.
- Graphic arts, I'd have loved to have done that.
- Buying porn instead of downloading it. :)

Date: 2006-06-02 01:32 pm (UTC)2. Rose. Sometimes I just don't get it.
3. Species II. We still refer to it as, "THAT movie." A close runner-up would have to be The Core(-niest sci-fi movie ever filmed). The geologist in me was weeping at the scientific inaccuracies, but then, it IS the Bush Era.
4. Geography, which is what I DID study. Ya gotta follow your heart.
5. I don't even want to consider that... That's like asking where we would be without oxygen.
CUUUUUTE pic, though!

Date: 2006-06-02 02:49 pm (UTC)2- Dorothy: practical, ironic, with a sense of protecting others around me, and always doing what I should instead of what I want. Oh, and dateless.. like others ( I don't believe that! )
3- Barb Wire. I went to the cinema after 3 days of demopartying, burning my eyelids programming routines all night long, my head exploding, and I wanted to watch something that was esentially inane. I wanted to watch Mission Impossible, but something broke in the cinema, and i had to wait until i caught the bus for home. Headache, Sleepy, and Pam An's pneumatic padding in front of my eyes.
Hell has never been any closer.
4- I think i would have done the same thing. Computing sciences is SO much more than computers. It's management of the knowledge itself, it's mechanization of the abstraction processes, it's human language, it's problem modelling and fixing. If I had the chance to go to all of these again I would give even a harder push on the artificial intelligence and abstract mathematics models area.
5- Unemployed, or trying to get a life through music :)

LOL.. I've never heard of that euphamism before. I love it. :)

Date: 2006-06-02 04:56 pm (UTC)2. I guess I am most like Dorothy too. I'm too practical.
3. Hmm, this is a close one between "Manos: Hands of Fate" and "Dracula 3000", but I think I will have to choose the latter. Not even Coolio could save this film.
4. Well, I already do what I love, so I might not have even gone to college and just started making video games straight from high school.
5. The world would be a sad place for me without the Internet. I'd have no job (since I am making an MMO), I'd have no boyfriend (match.com), and I would never have discovered most of the favorite books, CD's and movies. No, I don't even want to think about a life without an Internet.

Date: 2006-06-02 06:07 pm (UTC)I know there must be tons of them, but unfortunately, I think the most redneck moment in my family could be playing out as I type. I talked to my Mom last night (who is in Corbin right now). She tells me about how she and my stepfather (who is a major goober) are considering moving back to Corbin when he retires and buying a mobile home to put on the lot where my grandmother's house is. I think an alien has taken over my mother's body.
2. Which Golden Girl are you most like -- Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, or Sophia?
I never watched the Golden Girls so I don't really know how to answer this one. Which Golden Girl would you pick for me, Mark? ;)
3. What was the worst movie you ever sat through?
Hands down, no question about it ... All the Real Girls
4. If you were guaranteed success no matter what major or subject you studied in school, what would you have picked?
I would have studied art right off the bat instead of waiting (I went back and finished another Masters Degree in Fine Arts). And while I loved geopysics (and still do), I always seem to go back to more artistic roots.
Where would we be without the internet?
It's scary to think. I'm sorely addicted to it.

Date: 2006-06-02 08:26 pm (UTC)As for the Golden Girl for you, it's a tough call. I see you as too free spirit to be Dorothy, you're not a tramp so you're not like Blanche, and you're too savvy and smart to be Rose. So, I think Sophia is your best fit. You're worldly, witty, and full of tales, so it's a good match :)

Date: 2006-06-02 06:30 pm (UTC)I had to think about this, because "redneck" isn't really a Mexican phenomenon. This isn't to say that we don't have a similar stereotype; it's just... different. I suppose the fact that every party--holiday, birthday, kids, etc--has more cans/kegs of beer than cans of soda. I remember as a teen, I often had a hard time finding something I could drink legally.
2. Which Golden Girl are you most like -- Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, or Sophia?
I have Dorothy's lines, but Blanche's flirtations.
3. What was the worst movie you ever sat through?
My Boyfriend's Back. Technically, I don't think I can say I sat through it, because I think we left before it was over.
4. If you were guaranteed success no matter what major or subject you studied in school, what would you have picked?
I enjoyed my major, English. I just wish there was something more I could do with it besides teaching, which I don't want to do.
5. Where would we be without the internet?
Alone and afraid.

What was the worst movie you ever sat through?
3. Architect
4. We'd be jacking off to hard copy porn

Date: 2006-06-02 10:37 pm (UTC)2. Sophia. There's nothing like a trip to the market for a nectarine.
3. The Blair Witch Project. I sat through it, but my eyes were closed a lot to ward off motion sickness from the hand-held camera gimmick.
4. Music again. It's just more interesting to me than anything else.
5. Probably outside swimming, but here I sit, typing my life away...
:-)

Date: 2006-06-03 02:01 pm (UTC)2. The Virgo side of me pretty much puts me akin to Dorothy. Practical, sarcastic, etc.
3. Hmm, Judge Dredd was pretty bad, but I'm not sure I can recall a worst (although Manos was ba-ad).
4. Crime Scene Investigation. It's actually what I started my chemistry degree for.
5. I'd be weeping quietly in my room and wouldn't know many of the coolest people on the planet that I have ever met.
