Friday the 13th Last night I was flipping through channels and landed on AMC that was playing the original Friday the 13th on "DVD on TV." I really enjoyed watching this because they had trivia facts about the movie and the stars at the bottom of the screen. I thought that was really interesting. For example,

  • Betsy Palmer only did the movie so she could buy a new car and thought the script was a piece of crap.
  • The filming was racing against the clock as the trees at the camp were turning color. The movie was set in the Spring, but it was turning Autumn.
  • The producers wanted Sally Field to play the surviving character and Estelle Parsons to play Mrs. Voorhees. Both declined.

I wish I could have taped it for the trivia facts. This was one of the first movies that really scared me. Okay, sue me, I'm a horror movie geek :D

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first film, it seems there was a get together of actors, directors and such. I caught this Yahoo! News story about the event. It seems there's also a book about the movie series as well and talk about one more sequel and plans to remake the original.

I can't say that I'm much for horror movies, but I do remember lying on the living room floor with my brother watching this movie with only the light from one candle.

It scared the bejesus out of us when he jumped out of the water at the end.

I can't say I would mind a remake.

But ANOTHER sequel? Nyah. Jason X was TEH-RIH-BULL.

Always remember this film because I saw it with my mom, who was also a horror junkie like myself, the weekend it first opened. The icing on the cake for us was having to walk around to the back of the mall in the partial dark to get to the car. I liked this most because you had no idea who the hell the killer was until the last 15 minutes, as well as the fact that you actually got to know the characters more before they started getting bumped off.

Mark is a HUGE Friday the 13th fan. He saw that this was going to be on and recorded it. I'm not sure if he Tivoed it or video taped it.

Thanks for the link. It included information about a book that just came out. Perfect B-day present for him.
