kybearfuzz: (Comic Book Bears)

Friday after work, I swung down to the Levee to catch a matinee of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. It was grand, I love the animation. The facial expressions by the characters are hilarious, even for Gromit who doesn't speak. I recommend watching the credits for a funny extra at the end.

Wallace & Gromit.. and rabbits!

Today was visiting a local comic book shop and drawing. The guy who owns the comic book shop is a creepy guy. I don't go to this store often, so he doesn't remember me. He always follows me around the shop, asking me if I need help finding anything and always curious at what comic books I'm buying or interested in. I just want to tell him, "The shop isn't that big, buddy, I think I can find things without an escort." I don't think he's interested or anything, just wanting to discuss comic books, which I generally don't do (for the most part). The "Superman vs the Hulk" debate has never interested me in the least. I try to be nice, but short with him, hoping he'll get the message. Eventually, he went off to do other things...

There was one guy there that I wish was interested. He had brown hair with a thick goatee, wore a sleeveless shirt that said "Pipefitters Local 562" (which I snickered at the sexual connotation I could add to it), had fur all the way up his arms, broad shoulders, and a nice rubbable tummy. Sigh...

I did pick up some good deals on some back issues of All-Star Squadron. I love Jerry Ordway's artwork, and the characters from the WW II area can't be seen anywhere else really.

Hey it's the "Comic Book Guy" in the flesh. *laugh* Give him a break, Mark, he lives in his mom's basement and doesn't get out much. ;)

Are you serious? That guy in the Pipefitter's shirt was totally one of us. I'm pretty sure I've seen that shirt in one of those stores that sells other shirts with vague "hints" like that.

LOL.. Well, if he was there without his wife, I might agree with you. Given his dress, I think the pipefitters shirt was legit.

A couple of friends and I are going to see "Wallace & Gromit" this afternoon. I'll probably mention it on LJ tomorrow.

I loved the movie, I think you will too.

... and not every comic book guy is creepy, the creepy ones just stand out more than everyone else ;)

I (heart) Wallace & Gromit; have since "the Wrong Trousers" came out many years ago. I can't wait to go see this.

Hm. That's sure different from 80% of the comic shops I go to, where the clerks are too busy playing video games or Magick or something to even bother ringing me up. I swear, I could just walk out the door with a stack of comics and they probably wouldn't notice.

I guess I shouldn't berate the guy for trying to give customer service, but he seems to be a bit overzealous.

There is one comic book shop nearby where they have a part-time clerk who is really great and not bad to look at (bearded, burly, etc). He's a school teacher during the week and has decent social skills. :)

The clerk in Olympia was the same way. Nice, friendly, focused on the customer... And hot. Too bad I was jobless at the time and couldn't shop there more often.

Yay Ordway!

I too, love Jerry's work. I wish they would put out AllStar as a trade. I have alot of them, but not all. Jerry should do more!!

Question for you...in the icon you used, who all are the Comic Book Bears. I recognised Aquaman (when he was bearded and woofy) and Hercules, but who are the others...just curious.

Have I mentioned that you are woofy too??? Hmmm??? Jus' sayin....

Hugs!

An All-Star Trade would be nice to have, I admit, but you can find the back issues in the bargain bin in most shops.

The heroes in my icon are in order: Aquaman, Captain England (an alternate reality Capt Britain from brief appearances in Excalibur and the Captain Britain trade paperback), Trenin from "The First" (Crossgen), Green Arrow, Luthor from Earth-3 from "Crisis on Infinite Earths", a bearded Superman, and Hercules.

... and thanks :)
