Rose is Rose: The side effects of haircuts

My hair grows at a very fast rate. In some ways, it's a good thing, for example, when the person who cut my hair was one of those folks who graduated from cosmetology school with a D average. I have had a few of those in the past. In some ways, it's not so great. In high school, when every other kid was growing the mullet, I was ending up with an afro. It was the 80's and my hair was ten years out of date. My hair doesn't grow long as much as it grows thick with odd curls. Mom always thought it was cute, but she was hardly unbiased.

After work, I was tired of trying to control the mop and went to get it cut. I felt like I was sheered like sheep, but it is what I asked for. It is awfully short, but I have to admit, I like the low upkeep.. and I can comb it. Still, like the "Rose is Rose" cartoon above, it does seem to make one's head look bigger.

buzzed...

Short hair is good. If it was socially acceptable I would actually shave my head completely in summer. It really helps keep things cool.

If only I could have transplanted some of your shorn locks and grafted them to my mustache... we seem to have about the same hair color.

Ah, if I had remembered, I'd have collected some of it and sent it to you! Actually my hair has great static properties, it clings to everything when cut, so you'd likely not even have to use glue!

I'm visualizing you sending me your shorn hair in the mail. My roommate could open it up and go, "AHHH!!! SICK!!" and run off screaming. Or something cool like that.

Remind me and I'll do that next time, if only for the effect :)

Hee hee. And I'll try to catch his expression on film.

I love buzzed hair.

I think it looks great.

No problem.

I own a couple sets of clippers. So the next time you want it done, come on over and I'll buzz you myself!

Now why does that sound somewhat dirty... or is it just wishful thinking on my part??

Well you would have to be naked during the clipping.

Grrr woof!

:)

I suffered from the afro affliction back in the early 90's when everybody else was perfecting their long greasy grunge look.
After one too many "80's Microphone" comments I gave in and started shaving it to less than 1cm. It's great. I'd never go back.

I saw the picture, so I can understand your dilemma. You and my cousin Roger have the same issues, his hair is thick and CURLY... all he normally could do is cut it or put a ball cap on!

I'm glad my hair grows fast as well. I got it cut a couple weeks ago, and it looked as though I had a "faux hawk" because my sides were so short.

Your new do looks good on you.

Looks nice! I do the #2 guard buzz all over my head and have now for about 2 years.

I have the same affliction of fast growing hair and it's thick and wooly, although it's not excessivly curly, it does have waves to it and yes, I did have the big hair thang back in HS. But then that was the early 80's, well much of the 80's was about the big hair thang anyhow. :-)

Ah, the 80's were all about big hair, whether you had it or not! I'm convinced we destroyed the ozone layer that decade.

Oh, I love that cartoon. I can only view it online though as none of the papers here carry it. I love to see Rose transform into Vicki the Biker. Hmmm... now that is a cartoon idea :)

And thanks for the compliment, handsome :)

My hair is the same way....fast growing and thick. And my hair doesn't grow down so much as out. Back in the early/mid 90's I was going for the businessman's pony tail.....it just wasn't happening...my hair was expanding to the sides but not down.....and a total pain in the ass to manage.

For a long time now I get a very very very short cut. I have my barber use a #1 on the sides and back and a 3/8s on the top.

I can make a bottle of Suave shampoo (supersized) last about 6 months or so!

I have to admit, it was nice hopping out of bed this morning and having very little to do with the do! :)

uh huh....I call it No Care Haircare. Just a little shampoo in the shower and then a quick towel and you are done for the day with it!

My own brief attempts at longish hair ended very badly, since somewhere along the way there was always what I refer to as the Bad Richard Carpenter look.

So I've given that up forever! Bald or buzzed seems to suit me, though sometimes I experiment with letting it grow on the top, with mixed results. :-)

Just for the hell of it, you should try the bald thing sometime. And if you hate it, it'll grow over in a week or so. ;-)

Hmmm.. never tried that before, it's something to consider... some of us aren't as cute as you! :)
