After work yesterday, I went to the gym and did my 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer. With weak and wobbly legs I drove home, seeing so many of my neighbors out mowing their yards as I cruised through the neighborhood. Thinking it was going to rain today and the yard would become unmanagable if I waited, I decided to mow mine as well.

While mowing the side yard, I looked down at the last second to see a small frog staring up at me, right in front of the mower. Unfortunately, the little guy just sat there and it was too late to stop the momentum of the mower and over him I went. A large "piece" of whatever was left came shooting out the side and I literally cringed. You see, I don't like to kill things, with the exception of some bugs, most rodents, and snakes. A poor little frog, nah, he doesn't show up as evil on my radar.

As I was telling a few chat buddies yesterday, I think the poor little guy was suicidal. He stood right there and let me run him over. No note was found. I am guessing that his wife (or life partner) left him for a horny toad who had a big swingers pad over on the other side of the woods. Sigh.. I'm rationalizing...

Oh well, back to work...

Im guessing suicide was the motive as well. He was probably tired of living up to the hype and standard set forward by the marketing experts behind Kermit for all these years and was disappointed that no pig in high heels would date him. Instead he settled for one of his own and started to raise a family but the pressure of providing food and shelter for all 12,000 tadpoles from his wife's first delivery was too much and he snapped.

It's not easy being green.

There should be a support group for frogs in distress...

... and he was actually a yellowish color... at least pre-lawn mower.

Oh I know....I have some froggies or toads in my yard and when I mow I always watch out for them....same with the bunnies

Oh, if I had run over a bunny with the lawn mower, I'd have lost it! Anything furry and cute, with the exception of moles and other yard vermin...

Hehehehe.....yeah I know...I am very protective of the bunnies in and around my yard. In fact they have gotten used to me when I go out to smoke.....I don't get real close, but they see me and continue to munch on the grass or the occasional weed on the yard.

LOL.. I'm surprised one of the more rebellious bunnies doesn't ask for a drag.. or a cigarette of his own.

Hehehehe......I am wondering the same thing....actually they usually see me....start a little bit...then stop....hunker down and then start relaxing and eating again

LOL.. I'd like to see the Croc Hunter go after a 'gator with a lawn mower. He would so get his ass kicked (sorry, channeled my inner redneck for a moment).

Aw. Poor frog:( I almost ran over a snake once in my yard, but I managed to miss him or her. As long as it's not a big monstrous lethal poisonous snake, it's welcomet to stay in my yard.

Oh, the last one I ran over was a copperhead, so I don't feel so bad. Actually, the blades were too high, so I couldn't kill him. Instead I was wailing on the ground with my rake. I'm sure my neighbors thought I was completely nuts.

Once stunned or dead, I flung him via rake express into the woods, only to have him get caught on a branch of an overhanging tree. I went to get something to get rid of him and when I came back he was gone. Not my best story, but there it was.

ah... I guess that would explain the personals ad I saw this morning...

Missing: My husband, J. Phineas Frogg. Left last afternoon for a quick drink at the local watering hole and I haven't seen him since. His thousands of little tadpoles and I miss him, please bring him home safely.

yes, due to the trauma of the experience I'm sure you have blocked out the whole incident and only remember bits and pieces about the frog.

Sorry you had to experience that. As for myself, I've been lucky enough to not have been duped by wildlife into assiting them in shuffling off their mortal coil. It reminds me of a Looney Tunes cartoon they can't air on tv anymore which spoofed nature documentaries. At one point they showed a frog, the narrator explaing, "..and here we have a frog croaking". It promptly yanked out a huge gun and shot itself in the head. To this day, that's still one of the sickest/funniest things I've seen.

LOL.. it seems that I recall that particular cartoon. Ah, those were the good ones. Too bad it's considered un-PC nowadays.

I kind of did the same thing about a month ago. I was bored, so I went to visit a friend, he was going to mow his yard, so I told him I would do it. A little while into it, I saw a lady bug just as I passed over it, there was no reaction time. About 10 minutes later I scraped the top of my head on a tree branch. I think that was the yards way of getting even with me. I passed that branch several times.
