Mowing with a Deadly Weapon

After work yesterday, I went to the gym and did my 45 minutes on the elliptical trainer. With weak and wobbly legs I drove home, seeing so many of my neighbors out mowing their yards as I cruised through the neighborhood. Thinking it was going to rain today and the yard would become unmanagable if I waited, I decided to mow mine as well.

While mowing the side yard, I looked down at the last second to see a small frog staring up at me, right in front of the mower. Unfortunately, the little guy just sat there and it was too late to stop the momentum of the mower and over him I went. A large "piece" of whatever was left came shooting out the side and I literally cringed. You see, I don't like to kill things, with the exception of some bugs, most rodents, and snakes. A poor little frog, nah, he doesn't show up as evil on my radar.

As I was telling a few chat buddies yesterday, I think the poor little guy was suicidal. He stood right there and let me run him over. No note was found. I am guessing that his wife (or life partner) left him for a horny toad who had a big swingers pad over on the other side of the woods. Sigh.. I'm rationalizing...

Oh well, back to work...

Awwww ... poor froggy! =(

Im guessing suicide was the motive as well. He was probably tired of living up to the hype and standard set forward by the marketing experts behind Kermit for all these years and was disappointed that no pig in high heels would date him. Instead he settled for one of his own and started to raise a family but the pressure of providing food and shelter for all 12,000 tadpoles from his wife's first delivery was too much and he snapped.

It's not easy being green.

There should be a support group for frogs in distress...

... and he was actually a yellowish color... at least pre-lawn mower.

"... and he was actually a yellowish color...
at least pre-lawn mower."

Ack!

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. let's just say I saw things that I don't recall from Coach Foley's biology class.

[identity profile] daltxfurry.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwww......poor widdle froggy.......I guess he wanted to croak and just couldn't do it himself so he forced you into an assisted suicide!

Hmmm.... would that make him Dr. Croakvorkian?

*apologizes for silly joke up front..."

:-)

[identity profile] daltxfurry.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
oh I am sure there will be many more jokes...I just can't think of them at this hour of the morning

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh.. me neither.. at least it was a quick demise. Not that I'm all that happy about having to clean up the mess afterwards.

[identity profile] daltxfurry.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I know....I have some froggies or toads in my yard and when I mow I always watch out for them....same with the bunnies

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, if I had run over a bunny with the lawn mower, I'd have lost it! Anything furry and cute, with the exception of moles and other yard vermin...

[identity profile] daltxfurry.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehehehe.....yeah I know...I am very protective of the bunnies in and around my yard. In fact they have gotten used to me when I go out to smoke.....I don't get real close, but they see me and continue to munch on the grass or the occasional weed on the yard.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. I'm surprised one of the more rebellious bunnies doesn't ask for a drag.. or a cigarette of his own.

[identity profile] daltxfurry.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehehehe......I am wondering the same thing....actually they usually see me....start a little bit...then stop....hunker down and then start relaxing and eating again

I can see the next episode of Croc Hunter now....

Evil humans with machines to kill the reptile population...

frog=reptile?? I didn't pay attention in class!!

[identity profile] baeritone.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Frog = amphibian, but close enough. :)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. I'd like to see the Croc Hunter go after a 'gator with a lawn mower. He would so get his ass kicked (sorry, channeled my inner redneck for a moment).

[identity profile] queensheba.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw. Poor frog:( I almost ran over a snake once in my yard, but I managed to miss him or her. As long as it's not a big monstrous lethal poisonous snake, it's welcomet to stay in my yard.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, the last one I ran over was a copperhead, so I don't feel so bad. Actually, the blades were too high, so I couldn't kill him. Instead I was wailing on the ground with my rake. I'm sure my neighbors thought I was completely nuts.

Once stunned or dead, I flung him via rake express into the woods, only to have him get caught on a branch of an overhanging tree. I went to get something to get rid of him and when I came back he was gone. Not my best story, but there it was.

This gets added to my pros and cons of house vs. condo debate I have going in my head for when I save up to purchase real estate.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
About mowing over suicidal frogs? Didn't consider it when I moved into my house, but if only I had....

[identity profile] dendren.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
ah... I guess that would explain the personals ad I saw this morning...

Missing: My husband, J. Phineas Frogg. Left last afternoon for a quick drink at the local watering hole and I haven't seen him since. His thousands of little tadpoles and I miss him, please bring him home safely.

;)

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yikes!.. I mean.. what are you talking about? I know nothing about a frog....

[identity profile] dendren.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, due to the trauma of the experience I'm sure you have blocked out the whole incident and only remember bits and pieces about the frog.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*Groan*

[identity profile] pariahcub.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry you had to experience that. As for myself, I've been lucky enough to not have been duped by wildlife into assiting them in shuffling off their mortal coil. It reminds me of a Looney Tunes cartoon they can't air on tv anymore which spoofed nature documentaries. At one point they showed a frog, the narrator explaing, "..and here we have a frog croaking". It promptly yanked out a huge gun and shot itself in the head. To this day, that's still one of the sickest/funniest things I've seen.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.. it seems that I recall that particular cartoon. Ah, those were the good ones. Too bad it's considered un-PC nowadays.

[identity profile] jbear70.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the same problem with squirrels and rabbits on the road.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigh.. oh well.. :)

[identity profile] stereobare.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of did the same thing about a month ago. I was bored, so I went to visit a friend, he was going to mow his yard, so I told him I would do it. A little while into it, I saw a lady bug just as I passed over it, there was no reaction time. About 10 minutes later I scraped the top of my head on a tree branch. I think that was the yards way of getting even with me. I passed that branch several times.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yards can be so evil :)

[identity profile] daxcub.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Horny toad??? OMG!!! Bwahhh hahahah!! Ok... Shouldn't be laughing but... Oh dear god... That was bad.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Anything I can do to bring a smile to your face :)

[identity profile] daxcub.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahem... Should I rattle off a few suggestions? *EG*

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Please do :)

He never accepted that his brother Kermit got the gig, when Kermit only came along cause they were going shopping later.

[identity profile] kybearfuzz.livejournal.com 2005-04-27 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL... of course, he wasn't green, which would make the song "It's not easy being Green..." a stretch.
