It's been a few months since the last issue. I've been working on it, off and on, but other side-projects have interrupted my progress. My goal was to have this out by Halloween, so I'm only off by a couple of weeks.

It's funny how while working on the current issue, I always start brainstorming for the next issue. I've been jotting down notes for it, so we'll see what develops there. Issue notes are at the bottom, as usual. Enjoy :)

  • I created this villain, which I'm calling "Musclehead," after several visits to the gym. So many of us workout to stay healthy, but there is always a handful who clearly go above and beyond to maintain an amazing, almost unearthly, physique. I'm guessing some of them use some chemical means to create it, but I wondered what lengths some of them would go to to create that body.

  • The question of whether Grizzly goes to the gym was one I've thought about before. For someone that can lift tons, how would he have a decent workout with only a few hundred pounds to lift, without giving away his secret identity? Now we know...

  • With this issue, Monolith becomes a regular member of the team. Comic books often change the lineup long before issue 23, but I can't bear to take any members off the team at this point, so adding one was the best way. We also get introduced to his big sister, State Detective Keena Hughes. We'll be seeing more of her too.

  • I went through my long list of horror movies creating this one, as well as keeping up with the new season of various TV shows. I dug out one of those horror movie 50-packs I bought. Yesterday, I watched "The Crawling Eye" and "The Wasp Woman," both cheesy 1960's monster movies. They are very entertaining.

Good lord, the hard work you put into this project is easy to see. I admire you for dedication as well as your talent.

I couldn't work up too much sympathy for the muscle bear victims, however. Just a personal prejudice.

A truly entertaining, and typically beautifully illustrated, story. Thanks Mark! This one touched me a bit more deeply as my first Bachelor's degree was in BioMedical Engineering. Ah, if only I'd gone for that PhD...
