kybearfuzz: (Cartoon Mark 2)

I've not been online much this week. It's been a long week at work and I've been spending a lot of my week nights working on the next issue of my comic book. I'm happy to say that I finished penciling all the interior pages tonight. Now I start inking, which generally takes a bit longer, but I'm going to make an effort to post and read a bit.

010 - Steampunk GentlemanI did do a bit of side drawing at least, just to get myself in the mood a little bit more.

Last night, I was working on a side cartoon and decided to try out the whole "Steampunk" style. When I went to a Halloween party this year, the hosts are a couple of very handsome guys who dressed as Steampunk cowboys. They looked great. I've seen the style in a few other places, usually book covers and the occasional comic book strip. This one is my version of a Steampunk gentleman. I imagine his coat goes longer and has a lot of techno-gadgetry attached.

In plotting comic book issues, I have been looking for villain ideas. I thought about creating a pair of Steampunk cowboy characters as potential villains. Once I get the next issue done, I may do some test sketches to see how they'd turn out.

I do love this drawing. I don't have much knowledge of the steampunk genre, but the stuff I have seen I really like.

I like the ones who have more subtle style. If you go online, you'll see some folks who look more like Steampunk cyborgs. Honestly, I'm surprised they can walk as it looks really heavy. It's a bit of overkill on those, but others look very cool!

How about Steampunk cowboys who start out as villains, but in the end turn out to be heroes!!? :)

LOL! It's a juggling act of sorts, whether to use a good idea for heroes or villains. Heroes are good because you can incorporate them into the team if things turn out well, but villains can be fun because you can get more use out of them in a single issue.

When people have asked about my adding them to the comic, I ask if they want to be a hero or a villain, and I usually point out that the chances of joining the team at this point is very small, but a villain can get more "page time" in a single issue.

I guess I would see how well received they'd be as villains and work from there. :)

Doctor Tectonic approves!

You should check that your steampunk cowboys have the proper credentials before you cast them as villains. Being in the Union of Mad Scientists (which I'm sure they are, being steampunks) gets you a bunch of membership benefits from the Society for World Domination, and that used to mean that you got free League of Villainy stuff, too, but SWD recently left the Association of Evil Associations, so now all you get from LoV is a big discount on dues if you join both organizations. Which, I dunno, maybe it's worth it if you go to a lot of the workshops they hold, but it's just so much work to stay a member in good standing... Anyway, the thing is, if you do Villainy events without pre-registering? They charge you TRIPLE to do the back-processing! I mean, I get it, villains, but still. Rude.

LOL! Perhaps there should be a strip search after capture to make sure the Steampunk cowboy villains have the proper...er, credentials?

That's an entirely different secret society!

...But one with very good perks. >;)

Excellent drawing! And the steampunk idea has merit.

You sure are a clever and talented guy. Most people I have met are either scientists or artists. You seem to combine the two. Damn it.
