Hero Day

It was a Hero kind of day...

First, it's Veterans Day, where we remember and thank all the veterans for everything they've done and continue to do for us. It is probably one of the few holidays where everyone agrees it's a good thing.

Naturally, as it's a national holiday, I was off work. I worked out this morning then went to the movies. The theater was giving free tickets to veterans to go see the war movie "Fury." While I felt this was nice of them, they could have given them free tickets to anything they wanted to see. I would think some of them might not want to see such things again.

I went to see "Big Hero 6," which I loved. Besides being a great superhero movie, it had some great moments of sadness and humor, which gave it a wonderful level of depth. I am contemplating making it the movie for the Cincinnati MovieBears outing this weekend. I'd definitely see it again.

Afterward, I went to the local park and got a bit more exercise. I didn't run the path as usual, but just walked it (I'll run it tomorrow, weather-pending). I used the time to think about plotlines for my next "Grizzly & The Bear Patrol" comic issue and came up with a great idea for the next two actually. I love it when ideas come like that, it energizes me to get things started. I'll start writing tomorrow.

Tonight, as I was watching the latest episode of "The Flash," I got out my sketchpad and drew a cartoon I've been rolling around in my head for a bit. As the temperatures are dipping, I'm longing for warm weather again and I think seeing Grizzly on the beach would have me swooning.

Grizzly on the Beach

Happy Veterans Day!

You guys get a lot of holidays at this time of year! How many days do you get at Christmas?

We have a lot of holidays in the fall and winter for some reason. Only Christmas is a Federal holiday, so we only get one day. Most of the folks in my office take a few vacation days around it.

One day for Christmas is rubbish!

Well, considering all the national holidays we get off during the year and the good vacation benefits, I rarely see it as such a bad thing. If Christmas day falls on a Tuesday or a Thursday, sometimes the President will make an executive order to give us the Monday or Friday off as well.

Ah, okay. Maybe you get more than us? I was under the impression that US employers generally gave less leave to their staff than their UK counterparts? Good that the President can do that! Does it apply to everyone or just government employees?

I think it varies. I know some private companies may be shut down for a week. Other may offer folks an option for the day after or the day before a holiday along with the holiday. When the President gives us that extra day with a holiday, it only applies to government employees.

Your drawing reminds me of a bartender I had a fling with in 1980 in Fort Lauderdale. He looked just like the drawing. Ahhh, it's a wonderful memory! Thanks! :)

I'm thinking I should go see "Big Hero 6". I wasn't going to at first, as the title was a bit off-putting, but your review and others I have read have changed my mind.

Oh you should look up that 1980 fling on FB. I bet he'd be one helluva daddy bear!

What about the title is off-putting?

I just thought it really didn't tell me much; it didn't create a desire to see the film (just from the title).

This guy was the most incredibly handsome man I've ever encountered. It was a night that felt like my own private magical porn film:)

LOL... considering I'm 20 pounds heavier since I bought it I'd probably look like a stuffed sausage in it now.

Heh... Sausage, huh?

LOL... I didn't even catch that LOL I'm a grower not a shower usually so I don't fill out the suit near as nice as Grizzly does. Get me hard and I'd give him a run for his money though LOL

Excellent

At first I thought he was wearing a g-string -- maybe Grizzly moonlights as an exotic dancer?

LOL... maybe I need to redraw this.

I can certainly see him dancing, can't you? :)

The drawing is great! Yes- I can see him dancing - and doing other things, as well. ;)

The movie sounds interesting- I want to see it too!

I've been thinking about doing a series of cartoons solely about the bar, same characters and no superheroics, so it's possible that Griz could be doin' some dancin'... :)
