Homecomings

It's been a very busy weekend. And it's been a lot of fun too.

Me and the Sibs
The Sibs and Me

My trips to my hometown are fairly quick. I drove down on Friday morning and hung out with Mom for a bit, then went over to my sister's house. Later, my sibs and I went to dinner and I dragged them to the local coffee shop downtown afterward. It really is an oasis of sorts among the usual conservative nature of the town. With a bearded hottie folk singing in the corner, we each had various coffees (including some of the alcoholic variety). I'm not sure my brother was taken with it, but my sister and brother-in-law liked it. I'm surprised they never went there. I even had to tell my brother where it was and he lives there.

The next morning, I got up and headed to Berea College where it was my 20th homecoming. I was sort of pulled into a science presentation about the effects of sleep on health. It was interesting, but I had to bail to meet with my class for pics. I ran into my buddies Greg and Carla, both alumni from my class, and their son Edmund. All of us hung out the rest of the day. After a few hours, it got late and we parted company. I needed to drop of a laptop to my nephew and was planning on taking him to dinner. Oh, his dorm room is a wreck, mainly due to his roommate, I think. No dinner though as he had plans to "game" with some local guys, so I drove him to the gaming place and decided to head home.

This morning, I woke up to sound of Maggie the Cat meowing her head off. Not sure what is up with her.

It was a good weekend, but now I'm worn out. I think it'll be a take it easy sort of day.

Glad you had a pleasant visit there.

Thought I was seeing double there in that pic for a second. ;)

I think Maggie missed you!

LOL... we're looking more alike the older we get. When we were kids, Joe was BLOND and really skinny and I ... well.. wasn't :D

And yeah, Maggie missed me. She meowed incessantly at the door when I pulled into the garage. I went to the mailbox and back before going in and I literally could hear her over and over through the door.

It's great that you could introduce your family members to a place in their home town. The college homecoming sounds like fun, too. I've not been to any of mine at A&M. I think it's more a result of the size of the school. A&M went from 12,000 students to 36,000 in my four years. I have been to some of the Singing Cadets reunions, however. Many of my college friendships were formed during my time in this all male chorus.

Have a relaxing Sunday!

Well, I want the coffee shop to do well, so I'm always surprised people don't know of it.

And homecoming was fun, I enjoyed college so much more than high school.

Joe definitely fits into conservative, rural Kentucky...

The only thing missing is the chewing tobacco. But maybe he'll discover his inner queerness some day...

LOL! I will bet you money that there was a can of Copenhagen tobacco in his pocket.

And I don't believe for one instant that Joe has any inner queerness. He's terrified people in our hometown will discover that I'm gay.

You're probably right, but it's not much of a stretch that someone so "terrified" of people learning that there's A GAY in the family might be covering up for himself. After all, why should it matter to someone who's comfortable with their own situation?

I think it boils down in part to the fact that we're twins. Nevermind that we're obviously not identical twins, but people have always expected us to be alike. I'm guessing that he's afraid that if people find out I'm gay, they will believe he is too.

You're right in that it shouldn't matter. I've tried to discuss this with him and he refuses to talk about anything "gay." I thought we would sort of bond over my playing in the softball league, but he won't because it's a gay league.

It's stupid, I know, but I've really just stopped trying on that front.

I take it homecoming translates as reunion? Do you go every year?

Well, sort of. Homecoming in general is when the alumni return to a high school or university. My college (a university for you guys) basically turns them into pseudo-reunions for classes on a five year rotation. So this year, the classes honored during homecoming were from 2014, 2010, 2006, 2002, 1998, 1994 (my class), etc.

I don't go every year, but I have been on non-class years before. Now that my nephew is attending the same school, I may go more often while he's there.
