kybearfuzz: (Dreaming)

I woke up late today after a fitful night of sleeping. This morning I woke up after having a dream about a closet in my parents' old house.

In the dream, my sibs and I were adults, but living back with our folks in the old house. In my old bedroom that I shared with the twin, there was a big, long closet. As a kid, it seemed endless and mysterious things always seemed to be found back there. In the dream, this was magnified as the closet seemed to extend throughout the length of the house, literally linking all the bedrooms together and going through areas beyond the bedrooms.

My sister had redesigned this closet area. She had put down hardwood flooring. She had put in cupboards and shelves, every bedspread and sheet set was in plastic and was labeled, and there was drawers for little things. It almost looked like the linen department in a store. It was very impressive.

Eventually, we got tied up working on it and we were ordering pizza. The dream ended there.

The dream itself was fairly unremarkable. What struck me as odd is that this is not the first time that I have dreamed of the endless closet. I've had dreams where the closets went on and on. Sometimes they look just like they did at home. Sometimes they look like a farm house, with loose board and light going through them. My dreams usually involve finding false doors or hidden paths that extend the closet beyond the norm.

No great analysis of them really. It just seems like an odd recurring theme.

Interesting with the recurrent dreamscape of an endless closet. I actually remembered my dreams from last night--and they're house-specific. I don't often remember dreams but when I do, they often take place in specific locations--but they're locations I can't recognize but in the dream they are very real. One of last night's dreams took place in part of a house that I can clearly see, and in the dream it's part of the house I live in now, but it's a part I don't use. Another dream is a huge house, very specific rooms, and I keep going back to it. I know it has to be some house from the distant past that I've been to, but I can't recognize it. I have dreams like that in the past--in a specific house that I can't recall. And then years later, I walk into that house again and freak, because I realize that it's the locale in my dreams. The ones last night, though, are so freaking real to me, it's weird when I wake up and realize that they aren't.

Oooh.. now that would freak me out too, to have dreamed of a house and then find it again.

Maybe your dream is influenced by your remodeling of your house. :)

The house I found was actually the basement of the house of old family friends. I used to play with the kids in the family when I was little--during the summer my Mom would drop me off at there place for the day. The father was a HS industrial arts teacher and had built their house. He had a bunch of HS kids redecorate the basement rec room and turn it into a Tiki Bar. It had a big Tiki bar, a two wall mural of hula dancers on the beach and the support poles got turned into palm trees. I had several dreams that took place in the basement years later but I had gotten older and didn't play over there anymore--we just went there for Xmas and stayed upstairs. One year we went into the basement for a graduation party and I almost fell over when I turned the corner and saw the rec room. It was solo weird!

The remodeling may prompt these dreams--at least thinking about all the house stuff probably does..in fact, I had a really vivid dream once that we lowered the tall ceiling in the back addition of the house, and extended the hallway and the two rear upstairs bedrooms to make a huge master bedroom and a huge walk-in closest with a small bathroom in it. It was excellent. Then, I woke up and got disappointed that it wasn't real!

Oh I think I'd pass on that. Besides, it's a closet, not a wardrobe, thank heavens :D

Oh, the fun Sigmund would have with my OTHER dreams, I bet. He'd be writing books about them.
