Ugh. Rainy Monday morning. Karen Carpenter would have needed pep pills to get through this one. Bless her.

Monday Morning Murphy

Murphy the Cat has the right idea. I envy him the ability to sleep in every day. Oh well. It was a busy weekend:

  • I saw R.I.P.D. on Friday. While Rotten Tomatoes is currently tearing this movie apart with its reviews, I have to say that I enjoyed it. My love of Ryan Reynolds went undiminished, though the movie was sorely lacking in any shirtlessness on his part. Jeff Bridges stole the show though with his old-time cowboy character Roy. The story revolves around a young cop who dies and is recruited for the Rest In Peace Department (RIPD) whose job is to capture the undead who didn't leave this world. I thought it was a fun movie.

  • The Cincinnati MovieBears went to see RED 2 on Saturday. I caught the first RED at home on DVD the night before. It's basically a big "shoot-em-up" movie with some great humor thrown in. Helen Mirren is wonderfully bad @$$ in the film. Funny enough, Mary-Louise Parker plays Bruce Willis' overly-eager spy girlfriend in the movie and plays the "Proctor" in RIPD, so she had two movies released on the same day. It was a lot of fun to watch. No one in the group appeared disappointed. We're starting to move the outings to different theaters in the Cincinnati area, so variety is going to be the norm for a while.

  • After the movie, the group went to dinner at Cheddars where we all overdosed on good tasting, but bad for you food. I admit that the next day I was feeling a bit of the food hangover with an upset tummy and a complete lack of desire to do anything. I slept alot.

Now Monday has arrived and I'm acting boss all week. Um... yay...

I always love to hear Karen Carpenter sing. Such a beautiful voice, but sadly when I hear any of her songs, I imagine Greatest Hits commercials from the 1980's. That's it.

And crazy fake cousins? Yikes!

LOL... and I love the juxtaposition of the Carpenters versus the adult movie viewing. And yet I'm sure it was very fitting in some ways :D

LOL... lieing (or flat out believing in his head) that he was Karen Carpenter's cousin was one of George's less crazed antics. He really was a psycho all the way around. In 30 some years of boyfriends, he is the only guy my Mom was flat out mean to, she hated him. I'm also 99% sure he is the one who infected me. No blame or judgement, none of us knew any better in 1983, but it's definitely something I'm aware of when I think of him. It just adds up, he and I were together all summer of 1983, at the end of summer I got VERY sick with a "mysterious flu-like illness" and missed the first 2 weeks of my sophomore year in high school (which I assume was me seroconverting) and he died of AIDS 2 - 3 years later. I don't know why it even matters but is something I do think about :P

The Carpenters and porn. It was oddly fitting and very often totally humorous. Truly, hearing on top of the world watching some guy bounce up and down on a cock at the top of a mountain just seemed right LOL I really miss those parties, they were a product of a time and place so long gone for me. Doing the porn thing at the end was always more fun than sexual, occasionally it evolved (devolved?) in to some sort of play but more often than not it just became our version of Mystery Science Theater 3000 set to porn and the Carpenters hahaha

"I'm also 99% sure he is the one who infected me."

Wow... that must be a bit heavy on the mind. I can see why you would think about it though.

And you realize now and forever I will never hear the Carpenters again without thinking of sex.

you know... it really isn't heavy at all to me. Like I said, I don't even know why it's important in the scheme of things. It's just something I'm aware of. It was 1983, in the SF bay area... it was pretty much bound to happen whether it was him or not. It's possible it was my first boyfriend who was almost a year earlier, but that 2 week illness I had while with George really sounds like classic sero-conversion sickness to me.

LOL... so if I come to visit I should put on a Carpenters cd in the car, got it. ;)
