You're Born Naked, the Rest is Drag :)

So, this isn't really a spoiler, but the winner wasn't crowned last night on RuPaul's Drag Race. It's because it's going to be by popular vote, just like the winner was chosen last year. I think that's fair because some of the past decisions weren't the best, most notably the selection of Tyra Sanchez in Season 2 who I thought was one of the worst competing.

Just some thoughts behind the spoiler cut for those interested:

• Roxxxy Andrews: Grrrl needs a Xanax. While she probably did best in the video, I can't stand her personally. She seems to think that all a drag queen needs to do is be pretty, dance around a bit, and lip sync the words correctly. Everyone keeps referring to her as a "pageant queen," which is pretty much what they said about Alyssa Edwards and CoCo Montrese. I definitely see the similarities between the three because it all seems to be about the look. Having to do anything that requires creativity, acting, comedic timing, singing, etc. seems to make them irritable and sad. She had a meltdown last night when her acting bits for the video fell short. Now I've not been to many drag shows, but the few I've been too have been funny and entertaining beyond just a lip sync number. Running the show seems to be all about interacting with the audience and having to think quickly on your feet when reactions go a certain way. To me, this involves all the skills that Roxxxy is bitching about when referring to Jinkx or Alaska. She needs to look in the mirror and realize that she's lacking real skills that I think she would need to headline.
  
  
• Alaska: She did so-so in the video, dancing is obviously not her strongest suit, but she did well in the acting part of the challenge. She was the only one to say why she deserved to win and why the others did not. I felt like last night, Roxxxy's animosity was targeted at her as well as Jinkx. Her runway look was meh, but I thought she did a good job on the lip sync. If she wins, I'd be happy.
  
  
• Jinkx Monsoon: Jinkx is my favorite among the final three. I like the fact that she has held fast to her guns that her "type of drag" is valid and if the pageant queens don't like it, that's tough. I admire individuality. She is a good comedic actress and seemed to do well in the dancing part for the upcoming video. I am happy to see her defend herself against Roxxxy. I hope she wins.

You didn't mention The Big Apology by Roxxxy during the critique, but it was the thud heard 'round the world. It was also the sound of the door closing behind her "big girl" ass.

Jinkx certainly seems to bring a smile to everyone's faces (like the video director in last night's show). Not sure if that's enough to cinch first place though.

And without knowing how the show REALLY works, there's no way to know if viewer votes will actually determine the winner.

Oh, I have no idea where the hell the apology came from. I notice she never explained it and it had all the sincerity of a lead weight on a foot.

I can handle either Jinkx or Alaska winning. And you're right, there is not concrete proof who will will by a vote since there are SOOO many ways to vote.

When Ru announced the popular vote part of the episode, I wondered how it worked, too, because the show was recorded a while ago, right? I've been seeing show flyers for Jinkx and Alaska and some of the other queens from this season weeks ago, so I'm pretty sure the taping is over and done with a long time ago.

Yeah, another Tyra could be.. just awful.

Last year, I read they recorded all three queens winning the crown. When the online voting was done, they just played the recording of the winning queen.

There was an after party somewhere where I think Sharon gave a speech live.

I did see it and LOVE IT!

I thought Sharon's impersonation was pretty dead on. And give me #25 in the green jersey anytime! WOOF :)
