Yesterday after work, with the temps in the high 40's and the sun out, I decided to go for a run. I've not done this since that unfortunate hospital stay of mine a couple of weeks or so back, but the doctor said my lung functions would improve. So I did the run to see how much improvement I'd made. Having not run for several weeks, I expected my stamina to be all but gone.

The good news is that I managed to get 2.6 miles in before I ran out of gas. Even better news was that I didn't stop because I couldn't breathe (like last time), but because I just didn't have the energy to do more. So I'm scoring it as improvement. Of course, my body is screaming in certain places this morning after the workout. I need to stretch more.

Last night I did some drawing while watching TV. I've been trying to do little cartoons between pages for the next Grizzly comic. I drew this one for a buddy whose birthday is Friday. He seemed to like the shirt I made for Brian last week, so I did one for him. He's not a regular LJ reader, so I think I'm safe posting this before the package arrives at his house later this week.

Tummy Rubber

My only regret is that I remembered how much he loves the big tummies on bears before I came up with the tagline. I'd have drawn the cartoon a bit differently if I'd remembered (and had more time before his birthday rolled around).

It's Tuesday, y'all. Only three more days before the weekend.

It's good to know that you didn't lose much since the medical events of a couple of weeks ago.

HUGS!

Thanks, I'd say that a couple of more weeks and my lung capacity will be 100% again :)

Glad to hear you're feeling good enough to get back to running. I started again myself this past weekend (after a few months of just being plain lazy) and working out as well. Didn't want to push myself too hard so I'm only doing 2.5 miles and will probably push to the 5k this weekend (5k sounds so much longer than a little over 3 miles). Even though I started with lower weights, my arms and chest are still sore (what ever happened to "muscle memory"?).

LOL.. I think muscle memory is a trick to get us back to the gym. My legs were screaming this morning when I woke up. :D

Thanks! I do wish the weather was cooperating more though. I'm not much of a runner when there's snow on the ground.

Very cool & woofy drawing - I'm sure your buddy will be much pleased!

Congrats on dealing so well with your latest run ... I tried running thirty years ago, and even back then my body absolutely hated it; the first thing to give out was my lungs. Aerobics and I have never been pals ...I'm going back to the weights.

Thanks! He should be getting the shirt today if the mail isn't held up due to bad weather.

Weights definitely are easier to do in this colder weather! I like running because I can let my mind wander and think about things while doing it. I will say that I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to do it. My legs and knees are not as forgiving as they were when I was 25.
