kybearfuzz: (Movie Buff)

I went to see The House At The End of the Street today after lunch.

The reviews have been pretty bad, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 12% rating currently, but I didn't think it was that bad. The story is of a mom and daughter moving into a pretty ritzy neighborhood only to discover that they live next door to a house where a double-murder occurred. The son of the murdered couple still lives in the house and is shunned by the rich neighbors, which makes the daughter take pity on him. The neighbor has a big secret in that he doesn't necessarily live alone.

The movie dragged a bit here and there, but I thought the acting was good and the plot held some interesting twists along the way so it wasn't too predictable. I don't think it's a movie to buy, but I'd watch it again.

Of course, as it my lot in life, there were talkers. There was only five people in the matinee -- me, a couple, and what I think was a mother-daughter pair. The mother-daughter, I'll call them Carol and Marsha, could have sat anywhere in the theater, but they chose the row and seats in front of me. They whispered, but they whispered a lot! I was half-tempted to tell them to go get coffee and chat instead of doing it in the theater.

Then it hit me, the perfect idea for a horror movie. A man loses his mind in a theater because he is surrounded by teenagers and college students, all of whom are texting, talking, etc., during the flick. He picks a Friday night when the movie shows a horrible PG-13 horror movie starring Miley Cyrus, dresses like an usher, and begins eliminating his targets. He can shove a cell phone down the throat of one chatty Cathy, strangle one dude with his red vines, drown another with his large Coke (refills are free of course). I would call it "The House of The Usher" or something equally as bad.

Scoff if you wish, but I think this idea could sell! :)

I really don't understand why they do that! I usually prefer to sit away from others when the theater is empty. It's like a herding mentality.
