Oh... the soreness...

Softball was a good time last night, but I have to admit that I'm paying for it this morning.

We showed up for the first game short two players. So after begging a couple of ladies from another team to join us for the game, we hit the field to get summarily trounced. It's frustrating, but anything we hit in the air was caught, including a beautiful shot I launched to left field, which was sad as it was one of my better hits this season. We've beaten this team before, but we were just not on our game.

The second game was anticipated to be worse, as we were playing a team from the upper division. "Batting practice" for them, "field practice" for us, as I coined it. Well, field practice it was as my captain put me in LEFT FIELD. Not my preferred position as I always have trouble guaging the trajectory of the ball in the air. Needless to say, I ran a lot and caught nothing.

My best line of the night: "I'm soaked to the skin. Cannibals could wring out my underwear for soup!"

We lost, but not by as wide a margin as I'd have guessed. Little victories are important I suppose. The muscled hottie we borrowed to play the second game was in left center, so looking at him between hits was fun.

Needless to say, after all that running and tumbling, my body feels like it was ran over by steamroller. My right calf is aching and other parts of me are hesitant to cooperate.

Where is my Advil....?

I totally felt bummed I missed out on a season of softball, but this post reminds me of the aches and pains associated with it the day afterwards. It is always frustrating to try your best during a game and just be a bit off from what you know you can do.

I know that I'd miss softball terribly if I didn't play, but the mornings after I could do without with the ouches. Lately, I've noticed that I've been feeling a bit more aggressive toward the game and my frustration level goes up accordingly. I need to remember, we really ARE there to have a good time.
