Mark the Baker
Mar. 29th, 2004 10:18 pmMy plans to go to dinner and a movie with my buddy fell through. He was planning on leaving his job today due to troubles with the boss and I'm guessing it was pretty ugly. No call from him, but I imagine it didn't go over well.
Since I had the night to myself, I decided to bake something for Wednesday's Bake Sale at work for our morale committee. It the only committee I'm on, so I figure I need to contribute. Now I admit I'm a good cook, even my brother says so and he rarely hands out compliments. However, being a good cook and being good at baking aren't necessarily the same thing. I rarely bake and tonight's culinary experiments showed that. I do learn pretty fast from mistakes.
My first batch of cupcakes went a tad awry. Some were a little overfilled and the cups were a little irregular when I placed them. They taste good despite their appearance. Here is the end result. Addendum: They are orange flavored, forgot to mention that ;)

Needless to say, I learned a few things from my rushed first try. The strawberry ones look a bit more normal.

Fifty cupcakes later, I'm beat. At least I learned all about the amazing sculpting power of cream cheese icing that helps hide some of the odd ones imperfection. I don't think Martha Stewart or Brini Maxwell have anything to worry about from me.
