No, the Papasans are not neighbors, friends, or the like. They are a pair of chairs I bought when I first moved into my house some 11 years ago.

I bought the Papasans in 2001. I always liked the style of the chairs and a friend in college had one in her dorm room. While I was happy to have them, I soon realized that they were not the most sturdy of seatings. My fat butt often caused creaks and cracks. Also, the chairs were a bit awkward and took up a lot of space.

Over the years, they basically became cat seats, or places to catch my coat when I came in from work. One guy I dated saw them and said something like, "Wow, I've stepped into the 70's." As part of my spring cleaning this year, I decided it was time for them to go.

Tomorrow is trash day, so I put them out on the curb a bit ago. Before I even got both cushions out, three boys about 10-years-old came up and asked if they could have them. I told them that they could take them as long as they asked their parents if was okay first. Funny, I thought, my style appeals to kids.

In five minutes, both chairs were gone. Hopefully, they've got to good homes where they'll get used better than in mine.

Wow - I never knew what they were called - I coulda lost my design credentials if anybody had found out ;0)
Thanks for the education! I always thought these chairs fascinating objects but not particularly fun to sit in...and even worse to try and get up out of.

Glad to hear this phase of spring cleaning has gone well for you - hope it brings a sense of renewal, and regained space!

I remember my nephew when he was little would sit in the chair and it was almost a bed for him. I think for small kids or young teenagers, the chairs are well suited. For those of us who aren't in the single digit ages anymore, they just are for looks :D
