I attended my very first HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati over the weekend. I didn't go all three days, only Friday which was just enough in my opinion.

Me and John SaxonNormally, I don't get into the whole "meeting celebrities" thing, but I have to admit that I had fun stopping by to see John Saxon, who starred in "A Nightmare on Elm Street," my favorite "Black Christmas" in 1974, and tons of other movies and television shows.

When I walked to his table, his first words to me were, "Do you lift weights?"

Wow, I thought, I just got checked out by John Saxon. I took it as a real compliment. He is in great shape and actually was someone I crushed on big time when I was a kid. It seems like every show he guest-starred in during the 1970's had him shirtless and he had an nice furry chest!

John Saxon AutographI chatted with him and his wife for a while before I found the photo I wanted him to autograph, a still from "Black Christmas."

As I went around later, I saw that Margot Kidder had shown up and her table was next to John Saxon's. She has NOT aged well. I thought about stopping by, but reconsidered it.

I went looking around the many sales booths and bought a bootleg DVD copy of "The Ghost of Flight 401", a made-for-TV movie from my childhood. I watched it yesterday. The quality wasn't the best, but it was watchable. It still gives me goosebumps to this day :)

One of the best things of the expo was screening independent movies. I saw one called "The Sleeper". It was set in 1981 and I thought they captured the feel of an early 1980's horror movie really well. It had a few gaping plot holes and used a LOT of plot devices of slasher flicks of the time, but I enjoyed it. I wish I could have seen more of them.

The HorrorHound folks are doing another one in Columbus in March. I think I might just spend the weekend up there when it rolls around and see Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. That autograph and photo would be SOOOOO worth the money!

You got cruised by John Saxon! I am so jealous. I had a crush on him, too. There was a movie in the 70's, "Planet Earth" that was a pilot for a new series by Gene Roddenberry-there were two sequels. John Saxon was pretty hot in those movies. And always barechested. And furry.

LOL... I KNOW RIGHT! :D

I had a crush on him too and it seems like he was shirtless in anything he was in for at least a scene or two.

that is SO cool! Most of my memories of him are from when he was on Falcon Crest, even more bearish by then than in the 70s :) fun fun and yay for being cruised by him. I totally would have said hello to Margot Kidder tho, she deserves the attention after her totally go over the bend crazy years LOL

It was great to meet him and his wife was a pretty cool lady herself. I don't know why I skipped on Margot, she just looked annoyed to be there and I didn't think meeting her would be worthwile (but probably memorable). LOL!

That is awesome that you got to meet Saxon. He was a staple of so many 70s shows/movies and by association, a staple of my childhood. Warm fuzzies!

How fun! - yeah, I remember sexy Mr. Saxon :0)
"HorrorHound" is a clever moniker for that type of event (trimmer than, say, Baskerville Fancier).
I find horror flics fascinating...but am mostly too scared to watch them. Oh, it's not the initial scare while watching - it's the nightmares and headworms weeks afterwards *shudder*.
Hearing you describe a film of that genre would be the perfect compromise ;0)

HorrorHound is actually the name of a magazine about scary movies. I enjoy it because it often has articles about older horror flicks that I love.

And I'll tell you all about a scary movie! Anytime :)

I was friends with 2 stewardesses from Eastern Airlines that had either heard, or experienced the ghosts on the airplane. We were all upset when the first plane crashed, because that was one of the regular trips our "stew" friends bid for work. They knew everyone of the crew on that first plane.
I was hearing the ghost stories as they happened, but no one was supposed to mention it, but the girls did. It was a while before the stories got out, and the movie was made, I think a book too.

I can only imagine what that was like for them. To experience something like that would be very traumatic, and then be told not to speak of it.

The movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and it surprises me how much information is out on the net about it. I should try to find the book, which I'm sure is likely out of print.

When I started at the college, the creepy, over-bearing Mormon Elder who leads our vocal music department felt me up at the copier and said, "wow, you must lift weights or play football!" I was never so freaked out in my entire life.
It was like I was at Penn State.
Seriously.
I think comments like that are code for "SEX NOW!"
I can show you on the action figure where the bad Mormon touched me.
