kybearfuzz: (U Can Do It)

I ran the Edgewood 5K again today. It falls on every July 4th. I ran last year's race with a time of 27:36 minutes, which was an 8:55 minute-mile. I wasn't devastated by the time, but I really thought I would have done better.

After the Edgewood 5KI was up early this morning so I could register at the park before the race. My goals this year was easy: 1) finish the race, 2) do it faster than last year, and 3) don't get passed by the guy pushing the baby stroller again.

Early in the race, I found out that I was trying to keep pace with everyone in front of me and then realized I was wearing myself out trying to keep up. It's easy to do when you're running among a group, I think. Eventually I settled into my pace. Around the first mile mark, I saw the skinny freak in the lead running back the other way, shirtless and in the short-shorts that made me wonder if he was a eunuch. I'm not bitter.

I managed to meet two of my three goals. I did finish and beat my time from last year. However, the stroller guy passed me early on. I have no photographic proof, but I strongly suspect the stroller is motor-propelled and was pulling him along.

My unofficial time was 26:42 minutes, which breaks down to a 8:37 minute-mile, which is 18 seconds less than last year, so I'm happy. We wore the computer chips on our shoes and the official results are to be posted later today.

Thanks! I swear it seems farther when running on the road instead of the sidewalk.
