Holy Matrimony, Batman!
Mar. 1st, 2004 07:57 pmI had a long day working in Dayton and got to the gym very late today. When I got back in my car from my workout, sweaty and tired, I picked up my cell phone and found three messages waiting. It was my sister calling to say "nothing is wrong, but I need you to call me."
Okay, if nothing is wrong, why did you call three times in one hour? I called the sis and she told me that Mom and her boyfriend ELOPED!!!!! In my hometown, there is a running joke about young couples who run off to Jellico, Tennessee, just over the KY/TN border, to get married. No joke, my mom and dad did just that back in 1970 ...and apparently, history repeated itself today at 2:30 PM.
To say I'm shocked would be an understatement. I'm not upset in the least, Mom is a grown woman capable of making her own choices, but the rush is atypical. I mean, she couldn't be pregnant, which seems to be the new running joke in the family. I called Mom and she said that she simply was tired of waiting and that at their age, why court for so long? She sounds so giddy!
