kybearfuzz: (Comic Book Bears)

The weekend was a busy one for me, but I admit that I had a lot of fun.

Easy AAfter work on Friday I had to go see Easy A. The previews certainly didn't disappoint me. When Olive (Emma Stone) lies about losing her virginity to a made-up date, the news spreads like wildfire across her school. When a gay friend asks her to help him improve his reputation at school by faking it with him, she reluctantly agrees. Gaining a reputation she realizes comes with a price as the guys come running and the girls continue to talk about her, particularly the religious nutjobs on campus. Emma Stone is fantastic and has amazing comic timing. Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson play her very understanding, liberal parents. No extra scene at the end. I highly recommend it.

On Saturday, I attended the first Cincinnati Comic Expo. I've always wanted to go to a "comic-con" but never got around to going. I had no excuses for skipping this one as it was nearby. Besides multiple comic booths selling back issues, there were a few celebrities, including legendary artists Murphy Anderson and Allen Bellman. There were also a lot of local comic book artists, people in costumes, and cute bearish types roaming about. With camera in tow, I captured a lot of them for posterity.

Cincinnati Comic Expo 2010I showed the cover to Grizzly and the Bear Patrol #3 to a couple of local guys who thought it looked great and said it had potential. One gave me some info regarding possible printing options, so there is something I'll look into. I also spent a lot of money on back issues, independent comics, and posters. Where I'll hang them in my house, I have no idea. Overall, it was small, but I had a grand time and look forward to going again. I posted the photos in a Flickr set, click my photo to see them.

I thought the movie was great. Emma Stone should have a nice career ahead of her now.

I completely agree. She's establishing herself well as a comedic actress.

I haven't been to a comic con in prolly 30 years... ooooh, in fact I can prolly pinpoint it exactly, it was the same month Dazzler teamed up with Spider-Woman in her comic... #14 I think. I remember buying that at the con and being happy as a clam cause I couldn't find it at 7-11 LOL funny the things that stick in your head. I should go to another con one of these days.

This was my first and it's very small in comparison to others, I hear. I had a great time at it and scored some fantastic silver age Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Super-Friends! It felt like being a kid again really.

Well... a kid with a wallet that could pay for these things! :D
