It appears that tragedy has struck one of the more unusual sights to see north of Cincinnati. Lightning struck the wood/styrofoam statue of "Big Butter Jesus" last night and burned it down. I wonder what the evangelicals will say about that.

Big Butter Jesus Before
Big Butter Jesus as we've always seen Him

Big Butter Jesus Now
As the statue looks this morning

For the curious, here's the local news report:

I'm sorry, but that statue was just plug ugly. Perhaps, its destruction was divine intervention.

Have a good day!

HUGS!

It was, in my opinion, one of the tackiest things out here, but everyone did get a lot of laughs from it. They're supposedly talking about rebuilding. Sigh...

You have a great day too! Hugs!

What an ugly statue. Thanks be to Zeus that he hurled a thunderbolt at it.

Perhaps it was something from the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Thank heavens we still have the Creation Museum. *awaiting the tornado to whisk that away...*

I'm sure they're all working on eating those popsicles for the sticks now for the rebuild.

Sadly, this thing supposedly cost $500,000 to build. I can't help but wonder about all the goods that could have bought for food pantries instead.

I heard about this on NPR today, and laughed. They interviewed the pastor who was working hard to spin the loss of this monstrosity for his mega-church saying "Jesus has always sacrificed himself for the church." Yeah, if you put out a large lightning rod in front of the building, it did do it's job...but still.

They mentioned the "Touchdown Jesus" nickname, but I was sad they didn't close the report by playing the classic hymn "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through the Goalposts of Life."

LOL... well, I love the irony that the statue was destroyed by an act of God by most insurance policies.

I'm surprised how much press this is getting. I guess everyone deserves a good laugh :)

I saw the whole thing on Yahoo news, flames and all ... and I couldn't stop laughing. I'm not sure I can take that much irony in the morning :0)
