Professor BearOver the weekend I bought a few "clickable" fine-point Sharpie markers in anticipation of some upcoming cartooning I'm planning. I decided to try them out last night while watching some episodes of the Three Stooges on DVD. It's a quick toon, so forgive the flaws.

This summer marks two anniversaries for me. One is today, which is my 16th anniversary at work. Last year was the bigger one as I got an increase in my vacation time (which I often have trouble scheduling, but it's a nice problem to have).

The second is that this summer is supposed to be my 20th high school reunion. There's not a big list of folks I enjoyed hanging out with in high school, but I suppose it would be good to see everyone. I was chatting with [livejournal.com profile] aceofspace last week and we were surprised we'd not heard anything about the reunion. He told me he would do some checking with some of the more local folks back home. He got an email from one of our friends who informed him that while she would love to have a reunion, apparently there were problems at our ten-year in 2000. Those reunion planners got stuck with a lot of the cost as some of our former classmates bounced checks and didn't bother paying up. Nice, huh?

So, the 20-year might not happen. I can't say I'm overly disappointed as there's only a handful I really want to see again, but it does seem like it is something that should happen. [livejournal.com profile] aceofspace and I were debating on just planning a dinner with the friends we actually want to see. Time will tell!

It sounds like the last option is one that could be enjoyable and you'd have control over who was there. I've never attended a high school single reunion and don't plan to. Since I created a FB presence, I've received many requests from people I went to high school with. I "friended" four women from band and ignored four others. All of their profiles says, "Conservative, Christian and Republican" ... I can't imagine what I'd have to say to any of them:)

It's something of a bell curve for me I think. There are a handful I want to see, a few I don't want to see again, and a large number where I'm ambivalent. I know a lot of my former classmates fit that "conservative, Christian and Republican" group and I feel the same as you towards them.
