Mark in Dreads

kybearfuzzNormally my dreams are vivid and I try to remember them as best I can. This one took an odd turn. It was neither happy or scary, but just strange.
In this dream I woke up in my bed back in my old home, but I kept waking up over and over and over. It was though I was an actor in a play and I could not get the scene right. It was the same dialouge and the same action, but at some point it was start again. Each time I would push the hair out of my eyes and over my shoulder, listen to the alarm clock pay some 80's song, hit the off button... and be back to waking again.
When I finally got the right "take" I got up out of bed looking in the mirror and realized that I had long dreadlocks. Groggy as I was from sleeping, I didn't realize that pushing my hair out of my eyes and over my shoulder was an odd thing. I looked closer and realized that someone had woven the dreads into my hair. That's right, I was wearing a weave.
Something important was happening today because I went into a panic. I ran out of my room and to my mom who looked surprised to see me with my current hairstyle. I asked her who did this. My sister walked in and said she thought my brother Joe (the twin) had done this.
I was amazed as Joe has little skill when it comes to anything like weaving or knitting. In fact, I doubt he could thread a needle without assistance. I looked outside and someone was decorating the house, like it was a parade route. This was part of whatever "big deal" was going on today.
I went back to the mirror and looked at the intricacy of the weaving in my hair and realized that it was hopeless. I'd never get the things out before I had to do whatever it was I was supposed to do that day. I'd be ruined and started to cry.
... and then I woke up.
