I took the day off. It's not the snow I fear so much as the hideous traffic I'll encounter on the way home today. I have a lot of comp time that needs to be used before I lose it, so today sounded like a good day to do that.

Around this time last year, I started my Found Money project, collecting money that I found on the street, in the coin slots of vending machines, etc., just to see how much I could accumulate in the course of a year. I even included any foreign currency I found here (mostly Canadian) and abroad (Euros and Danish Kroners).

The grand total for 2009: $3.17, mostly pennies.

I'll likely continue to do it, though I don't think it'll make me rich.

I have a ceramic cow bank and was thinking that I should empty it someday soon, as it is getting very heavy. You may have triggered that activity!

I also have 13 cents on my dresser. It sits, separate from other change, because it is "found money" ... I found it on the ground, each coin individually, face up. Do you have that superstition?

HUGS!

Well, in my view, it takes so little time to pick up the money and it will accumulate.

And I don't pay that much attention to how the money sits, it goes into a glass until I think to count it :)

it's nice to hear of someone picking up found money. I've noticed over the last couple of years a handful of times when people literally threw their coin change away. I watched one kid walk out of a mcdonalds and throw the coins on the ground and another guy once walked over to the trash and threw his coins in. SO weird to me.

I don't get it either. To literally throw it away is crazy. Most of the time I think people hear a coin drop and think it's too much trouble to pick it up, especially if it's a penny.

I have a coffee canister I tend to throw loose change into. I cash it in on occasion. The last time I did it, there was over $70 in there.
