kybearfuzz: (Movie Buff)

After a very tasty brunch cooked by Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub) on Sunday, he, [livejournal.com profile] cubtharsis, and I went to see a matinee of Inglourious Basterds.

The movie centers around two concurrent plot lines in Nazi-occupied France in WW II. One involves a group of Jewish American soliders led by a smooth-talking leader from Tennessee (Brad Pitt) that takes no prisoners. The other involves a young, female French movie house owner who unwittingly catches the eye of the Nazi's version of Sgt. York. The story evolves to an opportunity to bump off the top Nazi figures, including Hitler, with both storylines converging separately with the same goal.

Overall, I liked the movie. Brad Pitt is not one of my favorite actors, but he does a good job with it. I wish they had spent more time with the guerilla actions of the group. Tarantino is known for putting a bunch of useless dialouge scenes in movies (in my opinion), but he managed to keep this one a bit more to the point. Though I think there were some parts that could have been trimmed down. Lots of blood and gore, some interesting special effects toward the end, some vastly historically inaccurate plot lines made for a pretty enjoyable flick. No extra scene at the end by the way.

I can see why this movie might be hit or miss for some folks, but I think it would make a good rental for those who didn't want to see it in the theaters. I'd probably watch it again, but I don't see me buying it.

I was considering this film, as some of the clips I'd seen appeared to be comic. However, when you typed these words ... Lots of blood and gore ... I'm out. I've not seen any of Tarentino's films because of it. I just don't do violence, no matter how stylized. Thanks for saving me some money! :)

HUGS!

By the way, is Brian doing okay? He hasn't posted in quite awhile.
