One of my favorite members of the Legion of Super-Heroes is Duo Damsel. Originally called "Triplicate Girl" and having the ability to split into three identical selves, one of her three selves was killed by the evil computer Computo. The surviving two selves re-merged and became "Duo Damsel." This being her only ability, she certainly isn't the most powerful Legionnaire. What I admire most about this ability is the practicality of it. Imagine how much a person could get done if all they had to do in the morning is split into two bodies. One could go to work, the other back to bed. Cleaning the house could get done twice as fast. At the gym, you could literally spot yourself in the weight room. Hanging pictures in the house alone would be a snap. If a date was going badly, you could go to the restroom, divide into two, and send one of yourselves to call you with an emergency after your other self went back to the table. If a date went extremely well you could surprise him or her with a menage-a-three (intentional misspelling).
And what super-power would you feel would be the most useful if not the most powerful?
And I'm not posting anything to give away what happens to Duo Damsel in the last issue of "Final Crisis: Legions of Three-Earths."

Date: 2009-07-27 01:37 pm (UTC)You know, I was reading your post and was thinking, "I wonder if he read FC: Legion of 3 Worlds yet?" Then I got to the end. *g*
I still think being telekinetic (at a reasonable power level) or being able to teleport would be the most useful powers. I'd love to be able to do the cleaning while sitting on the couch, or have my commute be half a second long...

Date: 2009-07-27 01:52 pm (UTC)As a fat kid who felt pretty worthless, the fact that even insignificant powers could count for something made me fall in love with the Legion of Super-Heroes. Triplicate Girl and Bouncing Boy really sold that message, so I was glad when they got together.

Date: 2009-07-27 05:03 pm (UTC)There was a Legion issue about the Legion Academy (#304) and Duo Damsel had a great line in it:
"The best part of the LSH is how heroes with relatively weak powers can combine to become highly effective."
Most of the heroes in the Legion only had a single power and I liked how they were valuable, no matter how weak or strong the power was.

Date: 2009-07-27 05:28 pm (UTC)Yes, exactly. It's an aspect of the team that's been lacking during recent runs. Perhaps with the shorter back-up features in Adventure Comics they'll be able to explore this dynamic.
It's a shame that Johns will only be doing the outlines for the Legion at this point. He could certainly stand some DD powers right about now...

Date: 2009-07-27 05:12 pm (UTC)And she did like the bigger boys. Bouncing Boy had a beard in the "Five Years Later" part. He makes a damn fine bear! I didn't draw this image, but I like how it makes him look. Add a beard and WOOF!

Date: 2009-07-27 09:47 pm (UTC)However, the ablility to create multiples of oneself does have some interesting possibilities; if nothing else, if a date doesn't work out, you'd have the unique ability to...entertain... yourself. Who else knows all your G-spots and specific turn-ons better than you do?
I might never leave the house!

If you could win that lottery though, you'd never have to use them again :D
