Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesWhile I was hanging out at the airport yesterday, I stepped into Borders to see about finding something good to read. I have my comic books, true, but I tend to read books in spurts. I'll read two or three novels, then stop for a while. I felt an upsurge in my desire to find something in the printed word.

I was about to give up when I spotted this book. Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub) and I saw it the local Borders a few weeks ago, but I felt that I needed to have actually read "Pride and Prejudice" to appreciate a zombified parody version.

The short description on the back sold me on the book. It ends with the following sentence (with my apologies to the English Lit majors out there):

"Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read."

So far, I am loving it. And the awkward stares from the ladies sitting around me on the plane who saw the cover of the book was fun too.

According to the Wikipedia link to the book (click on the photo above to go there), the rights have been purchased to make a feature film. I'll definitely have to see that one.

Off to class...

I'd be curious to hear what you end up thinking of it. P&P is one of my all-time favorite books. I haven't gotten around to reading P&P&Z though. I hear it's basically the same book, except with the addition of the zombie fighting.

There's a movie still floating around that a lot of people (including myself) took to be from the movie version of this book. Yeah, yeah, so the movie hasn't even started filming yet. I didn't know that at the time. Anyway, the still shows Emily Blunt in a gorgeous white gown, punching some old-timey military-costumed dude with a bad complexion right in the face. I saw it and I thought "YEAH! Emily Blunt would be perfect as Lizzie in this film!" It turns out she's actually playing the princess of Lilliput in a new version of "Gulliver's Travels." With Jack Black as Gulliver. God help us all.

The concept imparted by the title ALONE screams both genius and complete and utter wrong to me... I love it, must go get it.
