  • Soooo good to be home! My own bed for sleeping... nothing like it.
  • Murphy and Maggie are fine and are as enthusiastic as cats can be in seeing me again. Or they could just want treats. [catspeak] "Look, the butler is back!" [/catspeak]
  • Lunch at Qdoba with Brian ([livejournal.com profile] cincycub) on Saturday. I apparently missed an incredible 80's concert with the CMC. Darn...
  • Saturday afternoon movie was The Haunting in Connecticut. Decent scary flick and I've always had a soft spot for Virginia Madsen. I've seen the documentary version on "A Haunting" on the Discovery Channel and they made quite a few changes toward the end when I compared the two. Not sure I'd buy it, but it makes for a good rental.
  • Finally saw the last two episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I'm happy that the person I wanted to win did win. The reunion show bitchfest was even better, pure gold camp!
  • Late Saturday evening movie was Monsters vs Aliens in 3D. Six people at the 11:30 PM showing and the couple with the talking kid had to sit next to me. I'm cursed. The movie was very entertaining, but it seems heavy on special effects and a bit short on plot. It's a cartoon and a fun one to watch. B.O.B. as played by Seth Rogen was by far my favorite character. I'll probably buy it. Definitely good in 3D.
  • Wow.. I guess I didn't get a lot of rest this weekend like I planned...
  • I haven't done a lot of drawing the last two weeks, so here are some unposted toons from my sketchbook(s) and a new superhero I did last night. All work safe and behind the cut:

Grizzly the Barmaid
Grizzly's alter-ego Gabe the Bar Owner

I keep drawing Grizzly in this pose and I just like the idea of him being the happy bar owner/bartender. When I get to the last installment of the Bear Patrol comic, I think I may try something different with this. I have done a splash panel for the next installment already so it's coming.

Kilted Bear
Another Kilted Bear

A rough sketch done about the time I did the other two kilted bears. No particular reason for it, other than I wanted to try a different pose.

Negative Girl
Negative Girl

Before I started drawing the bear heroes, I had other hero teams I created. This was one of those characters, based loosely on friends from high school and college. Sadly, I don't remember who was the basis for this character. I used to love designing new female heroes as the costuming can be fun. In drawing the bears, I realized I had not done a lot of female heroes of late, so I did a redesign of this character.

In the vein of the Legion of Super-Heroes (a favorite of mine and [livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1), she has a single super power. She can dampen and disrupt energy fields. I have an idea for another female character, but I haven't decided if she's hero or villain.

Happy Monday... :)

So talented. I expect a hero named Negative Girl to look somewhat like Debbie Downer -- yours seems way too happy. ;)

LOL.. funny you should say that, [livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1 and I were having the same discussion yesterday about that. I guess it's playing against type, this design. And she's far less happier than the original sketch. :)

How are you doing these days, furry bear?

OMG... I can't believe parents would bring their kid to a 11:30 movie :P

Well, it was a cartoon, but she zonked out after a 1/2 hour or so. It probably wasn't the best idea the guy had. :)

I guess when I think about it there were a couple times when I was real young that my Mom took me to the drive in late at night. She and my aunt would watch the movie and I'd happily curl up with my blankie and sleep in the back seat :)

My parents took my sibs and me to see "Smokey and the Bandit" at the drive-in once. After we saw the cartoon and the first ten minutes of the movie, we kids were asleep in the back.

:) I remember seeing Smokey and the Bandit with my cousins. I must have been 9 or 10 and was sooooooooooo in love with Burt Reynolds. *swooon*

He sure didn't hold up well over the years... both he and Robert Redford (mmmmm his "stached" butch and sundance years... sigh) were two of my biggest crushes for me as a kid and neither of them has aged very well LOL

One of my biggest crushes was easily Gil Gerard from Buck Rogers. Oh my...

And I've heard he's not held up well either... :(

I'm surprised he was one of your early crushes... so clean shaven LOL

but, yeah, I liked him too. I think it was the tight buck rogers outfit ;)

What? Not Negative Nancy?

LOL... superheroes rarely use their real names in such things. Besides, some characters I draw aren't heroes or villians. For example, Bitchie Ann isn't a superhero as much as she's ... an enigma wrapped in a piece of raw bacon and pickled in gin. :)

Oooh.. I guess the character above could be a drag queen, if that's what you were getting at :D

I should do a drag character...

What a co-incidence! I've also unveiled a new superhero in "Bear With Me". Check him out:

He'll be appearing in the next several strips, as Paul continues to dream.

OK, help me out. Negative Girl reminds me of someone from an 80's vintage comedy TV series. Who is she? The hair and face are bang on.

Great bears by the way!

Heh... I don't recall anyone who looked like her. I guess there could be a subconscious influence... :)

The almost-off-the-shoulder neckline screams "She's a maniac!" from Flashdance to me.

Hmmm... she does have an 80's look I suppose... as [livejournal.com profile] squirreltot pointed out already :)

OMG, I know that woman - she's one of my upstairs neighbors... but alas, you've pictured her much younger and prettier ['meow']. Love the costume design - and with legs like that she looks like she can really kick ass.
As usual, your men are worth several woofs!
