Yesterday I hit the movies after packing for my trip to DC.

First, I saw The Last House on the Left, which I enjoyed quite a bit, but there are some cringing scenes in it. Definitely earned that "R" rating in many ways and thankfully there were no kids in it. A young girl and her friend inadvertently pair up with the son of a killer and his henchmen and are attacked and left for dead. The killer and group end up in the woods during a storm when they seek shelter in the lake house with a couple who are the parents of their latest victim. When the parents discover what these four have done, they take revenge on them in some pretty creative ways. The last scene is fun, but somewhat unnecessary. Not a movie I'd watch again or buy, but it was a decent remake of the early 70's version.

After the first movie, I met up with the Cincinnati Movie Bears to see Race to Witch Mountain. Two teenage aliens with super powers crash on Earth, the military tries to capture them, an alien assassin tries to kill them, the Rock gets into multiple fights in order to get the kids back to their ship and home before Earth gets invaded. Lots of action scenes and car chases and the original Tony and Tia from the Witch Mountain movies had cameos. It was fluff, but good fluff and entertaining. I'd watch it again, but probably wont buy it.

After the movie, we headed to Don Pablo's for dinner. A young cute guy was running around making balloon hats for everyone and had a really cool shamrock design. One of his creations was a palm tree with a balloon monkey on the trunk. So I elected to have a shamrock hat made. As he was making my hat, I said to him:

"Yes, we've been admiring your monkey all night"

Right out of left field for me and I think I embarrassed the guy who said he'd not heard that one before. I think I responded that he might hear it a lot from this table. Hat obtained, tip given, became a momentary camera phone star of the table, even got videod by the ever-ready [livejournal.com profile] chrisglass!

On the drive home, a local police officer was driving behind me. I was very careful to stay under the speed limit on the neighborhood streets, but was hoping he'd pass me or turn off somewhere. I was concentrating on him so much that I jumped when one of the balloons from my hat popped! Thankfully, I didn't swerve or I could see me doing a sobriety test on the side of the road.

Sitting now at the airport on my way to DC. Yay!

so witch mountain was ok huh? I *loved* the two originals so much... I was in love with Tony and wanted to be Tia so bad LOL Kinda want to see the new one but would be sad if it was a total crash and burn.

I always thought that even though the two of them had identical powers, Tia always used them more creatively. In the remake, they have different powers, but Sara's (the new girl) seems to be cooler still!

I find horror flicks fascinating, but way too frightening to see. Well, I've seen some on TV, but won't go see them in theatres - that's because the TV screen is smaller than I am, so I feel less intimidated - LOL
But I'm happy you like them... that way, you can see them and then write about them on LJ; I'll enjoy them vicariously :0)

LOL.. horror movies are not for everyone, but I'll keep you posted.

I actually prefer some of the really good ghost story type movies. One of the best is called "El Orfanato" (The Orphanage), just extremely creepy but very little gore :)

I remember the ads for The Orphanage - thanks for the recommend! A creepy classic I've loved for its exquisite photography (I've only seen it at film festivals - don't know if it's out on DVD) is The Innocents, starring Deborah Kerr and based on Henry James' novella The Turn of the Screw (not as provacative as it sounds, but memorable - LOL)
