After an exceptionally-high drama day at the office yesterday, I needed to go to gym to deplete some nervous energy after work. I swear, the bears were out in droves. It was a semi-warm day, so maybe hibernation is over. After exhausting myself on the stairclimber and elliptical trainer in the cardio cinema (playing "The Love Guru"... ugh...), I went to the main cardio area to watch "NCIS" and walk my cool-down on a treadmill. The cardio area overlooks the free weight area, where so many bearded musclebears were lifting, grunting and sweating. Working out is so good for a person. Really. Of course, I packed my gym bag for today then promptly forgot to put it in my car this morning. Grrrr!

After seeing some great kilt shots on a friend's journal entry yesterday, I felt compelled to do some drawing last night while watching a Netflix movie. I put them behind the cut because of their size and to save the uninterested.

Caber Tossing
Caber Tossing Bear

I'm not sure why I thought of this one. I have tossed a caber before during the Highland Games weekend at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival a few years ago. I didn't get it end over end, but I was given some applause anyway. And the phallic symbolism isn't lost on me. :)

Kilted Axeman
The Kilted Axeman

I was only planning on drawing one toon for the evening, but this idea popped up and the "rough sketch" got a bit more elaborate. I was thinking it was going to be a superhero and I guess it could be one. Not sure what I'll call him..

These are just amazing. Wow.

Now we need to get you in a kilt so I can include you in the WMK.

I was thinking of your posts when I drew these! :)

And I have thought of buying a kilt. A local buddy of mine purchased one recently for his sister's wedding and he looks great in it. So I may have a photo for you someday of me in one, if I can keep my legs in good shape :D

Get on that stairmaster, mister!

If you ever come to Boston, we'll take you to the Athol Brose, where you can hire a kilt (if you can't afford to buy one). They're amazing garments, and I'm glad my posts inspired you.

Wow....

I see people knock stuff out like this, and part of me wonders why I bother.

The proportions and details are phenominal.

You are way too hard on yourself. I think your strip is GREAT! I marvel that you can write, draw, and color the strip every week. I've been working on my superhero group comic posts just here and there and they exhaust me. I don't see how you keep up.

I don't kid myself; the strength of the strip is in the writing and characters, not the art. Your work is far more detailed than mine. I'm not surprised at the amount of work that goes into each pannel.

I keep up by keeping ahead. I just finished coloring the strip for three weeks from now.

You did all of these in one evening and watching a movie? Wow. I must say the Axeman is carrying one hell of an axe there.

Well, drawing while you were visiting seems rude to me. I did these in about two hours: one 90 minute Netflix movie and one episode of Family Guy.

And he's strong enough to carry an axe that big, don't you think?

I was going to put a design on the front of the shield, but couldn't think of anything cool and I was getting tired.

Hey there! Ironically, I was just looking at your journal yesterday, loved the set design with the Queen Victoria entrance! Amazing stuff.

And I'm glad you're liking the kilted guys :)

You know, I'd forgotten that I missed seeing these since work blocks LJ scrapbook pics for some reason. I have to say though, WOW. Especially the caber toss one. I think that's one of the most polished, realistic drawings I've seen you post.

Work blocks the LJ Scrapbook? I wonder why. I may have to switch to putting them up on Flickr too with a link. Can you see those?

And thanks! I was inspired on that first one and liked how it turned out. I've thought about coloring it, but I think I might leave it the way it is :)

Yeah, I don't get why my work firewalls block it, yet leave Flickr totally open. I usually just try to remind myself to open your posts when I get home :)

I'm sure it would look great colored, but it looks awesome just how it is :)

You know, on a completely different note, when Brian was here, I was saying that I really need to come back out your way for another visit. It's been too long. :)
