Gym Visit and Kilted Toons

After an exceptionally-high drama day at the office yesterday, I needed to go to gym to deplete some nervous energy after work. I swear, the bears were out in droves. It was a semi-warm day, so maybe hibernation is over. After exhausting myself on the stairclimber and elliptical trainer in the cardio cinema (playing "The Love Guru"... ugh...), I went to the main cardio area to watch "NCIS" and walk my cool-down on a treadmill. The cardio area overlooks the free weight area, where so many bearded musclebears were lifting, grunting and sweating. Working out is so good for a person. Really. Of course, I packed my gym bag for today then promptly forgot to put it in my car this morning. Grrrr!
After seeing some great kilt shots on a friend's journal entry yesterday, I felt compelled to do some drawing last night while watching a Netflix movie. I put them behind the cut because of their size and to save the uninterested.

Caber Tossing Bear
I'm not sure why I thought of this one. I have tossed a caber before during the Highland Games weekend at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival a few years ago. I didn't get it end over end, but I was given some applause anyway. And the phallic symbolism isn't lost on me. :)

The Kilted Axeman
I was only planning on drawing one toon for the evening, but this idea popped up and the "rough sketch" got a bit more elaborate. I was thinking it was going to be a superhero and I guess it could be one. Not sure what I'll call him..

Date: 2009-03-05 03:04 pm (UTC)And I have thought of buying a kilt. A local buddy of mine purchased one recently for his sister's wedding and he looks great in it. So I may have a photo for you someday of me in one, if I can keep my legs in good shape :D

Date: 2009-03-05 03:05 pm (UTC)If you ever come to Boston, we'll take you to the Athol Brose, where you can hire a kilt (if you can't afford to buy one). They're amazing garments, and I'm glad my posts inspired you.

Date: 2009-03-05 01:46 pm (UTC)I see people knock stuff out like this, and part of me wonders why I bother.
The proportions and details are phenominal.

I was going to put a design on the front of the shield, but couldn't think of anything cool and I was getting tired.

Date: 2009-03-11 01:00 pm (UTC)And thanks! I was inspired on that first one and liked how it turned out. I've thought about coloring it, but I think I might leave it the way it is :)

Date: 2009-03-12 03:38 am (UTC)I'm sure it would look great colored, but it looks awesome just how it is :)
You know, on a completely different note, when Brian was here, I was saying that I really need to come back out your way for another visit. It's been too long. :)
