kybearfuzz: (Comic Book Bears)

I was chatting online with Steve ([livejournal.com profile] rootbeer1) yesterday and he came up with the idea for a superhero with specific powers. Like usual, I got the costume colors, design ideas, etc., and sat down and drew out a superhero while watching TV last night (keeping Steve's good looks in mind for the hero, of course). Steve came up with the code-name "Focus" and together we settled on the final touches for the hero late last night. The toon and his power description are behind the cut due to size:

Focus the Telekinetic
Introducing... Focus!

In an email, Steve described the powers much better than I could rehash, so here is the description:

"Bio: In my dreams I seem to have telekinesis as a matter of course, and it's always seemed odd that I didn't continue to have it when I woke up, so my superhero alter-ego has telekinesis. To make it different from the run-of-the-mill Marvel Girl-style power, I've limited it so that Focus can't lift more than his own weight and one other person -- no throwing around cars, lifting buildings or mountains, etc. But although he can't do extra-heavy lifting, he makes it up with superb control (and perception) of matter at the microscopic level. Using his telekinetic perception and ability, Focus can:
  • Cause someone to black out, by squeezing capillaries and stopping blood from reaching the brain;
  • keep a gun from firing, as well as change the direction and velocity of small- to medium-sized moving objects, like bullets;
  • heal illnesses by killing specific germs and viruses in a body, and heal injuries by knitting bones and tissue;
  • kill by causing a heart to stop beating, or causing any number of internal injuries;
  • use ordinary telekinesis -- lifting, throwing, catching, moving, etc.-- and telekinetic perception, which is knowing the exact location of all objects around him (by sending out a constant stream of telekinetic 'pings')."

If this keeps up, I will have a "Legion of Super-Bears" :D

Whew... I'm having trouble cranking out a comic with a team of six. I can't imagine trying to draw a team that large. It would be a George Perez-style undertaking and I'm not sure I'm quite up to that... but it's a great idea though. :)

LOL... I remember one of the artists... Byrne or Perez or someone who used to complain about what a task it was putting every single hair on the chest of some hero. Boy howdy it looked good tho. I can imagine in a legion of super-bears you'd go crazy with the chest hair detail LOL

I can imagine the detail would be staggering, requiring a lot more work. But I have to say, looking at George Perez's Hercules is well worth the effort... every... single.. hair..

LOL With the number of characters in the regular Legion, the Legion of Super-Bears would be like a super-powered bear run. ;) Not that that would be a bad thing. Too bad you're not closer or I'd show you some of the super-hero designs I'd come up with over the years.

Well, they aren't sketches like yours. Mainly just costume designs I came up with using the hero maker form from Marvel Fun and Games way back when. The funny thing is that I came up with so many storylines for the groups of characters I made too. Some have had a distinct direction and goal as to where I was going to take them over the years.
