Zack & MiriSaturday night the Cincinnati Movie Bears hit an evening showing of Zack & Miri (I'm intentionally leaving the p-word part off in case of filters).

When longtime friends and roommates Zack and Miri find themselves largely in debt, without power and water, and no money, they hatch a scheme to make lots of money quickly -- make an adult movie! With some borrowed funds from friends, they hold auditions, write a script, and prepare a set for what hopes to be a large money maker. It is when Zack & Miri plan to do a scene together that they start to wonder how they feel about sex and being just friends.

The movie is very funny. Seth Rogen is adorable and Elizabeth Banks has great comic timing. The story is well done and the humor is obviously not for kids.

After the movie, the crew hit Buckheads for dinner, having a very cute and attentive waiter and questioning the orientation of the management. The food there is so good, it was worth the wait.

Did I enjoy the movie? Yes.
Would I see it again? Definitely.
Buy the DVD? I can see me watching it repeatedly, so yes.

Well, don't get me wrong, I love Seth Rogen. However, I do worry that he will become a one-trick pony like so many comedic actors do and that he'll grow stale in time. Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey, Jack Black, Adam Sandler, Will Farrell -- they all do one particular funny man routine and they do it well, but after the producers have spun several consecutive movies around that character, changing mainly the name and setting, they start to fade in popularity.

Is Seth different in this movie? He's different from a lot of the movies where he was the star: Knocked Up, 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Pineapple Express -- but he's also the same, the same kind of humor, the same blunt responses, etc. The question I guess is that is he different enough to capture your interest. While he gets obviously a lot of screen time, I wouldn't discount Elizabeth Banks' contribution to the movie as well as the other characters. While the movie follows a dumb-dumber feel, having a female lead in the situation does add a twist to things. It's funny, but it's crass humor and sometimes a guy is just in the mood for that. When in doubt, catch a matinee or wait until comes to the second run theaters. That way if you enjoy it, great. If you don't enjoy it, then you're not out too much money :D
