I went to the gym after work yesterday and ran for three miles. After my softball injury (yeah, I'm still milking it), I have been trying to get back to where I was in terms of distance. I managed three, but I had to walk some laps between mile two and mile three, which gave me a bit of time to admire the muscled hotness around the gym.

Miss Pettigrew
Frances McDormand and Amy Adams in
Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day

When I got home, my Netflix movie arrived for the day and it was good for relaxing. Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day was a period comedy I wanted to catch at the theater but I never had time while it was running. A homeless governess in pre-WWII London steals a job opportunity and ends up as a social secretary for an American club singer. The singer is juggling three men involved in her career and Miss Pettigrew uses her quick wit to keep the young lady out of trouble and keep herself off the street.

The movie humor is very subtle and the scenery is impressive. McDormand plays the lead so well. She really did earn that Oscar. The movie also stars Amy Adams and Lee Pace ("Pushing Daisies"). I'd definitely watch it again and am thinking of buying the DVD.

Coincidentally, I expect my NetFlix copy of Miss Pettigrew to be arriving today or tomorrow. It looks like my sort of film. I saw the trailer in a local movie theater; unfortunately, as is often the case here in Charleston, the MOVIE ITSELF never made it here.

Frances McDormand will ALWAYS be Marge Gunderson in my book!

Actually, I have often thought that of all the multiple Oscar-Nominated actresses, McDormand seems to be one of the more versatile, which is why I think she tends to do a better job. She's not the actress playing the same role in a different movie, but the actress becoming a different role in a different movie. :)

I guess I should have put it differently. I didn't mean to imply that Frances McDormand has been, for me, irretrievably typecast as Marge Gunderson. She is a very versatile actor, I agree. What I think I MEANT to say is that her performance in Fargo will always stay with me; I adore that movie, and I have fond memories of when she STRUTTED across the stage during the Academy Awards to accept her Oscar.

Ah, my mistake. And it was a great role for her :)

An interesting coincidence: my copy from Netflix is supposed to be shipped next too.

We must be on a similiar wavelength when it comes to our queues.

Except I don't watch that horror crap....

That horror crap? Awwwww....

You're lucky I watch it as now I am prepared to defend you from monsters and serial killers should they attack during a night we are snuggled together on the couch. I am so ready to go Buffy on them. :)

Of course it's research. I now know not to wear my high heels while going camping in the woods, not to split up from the group when being pursued by a killer, not to shower alone at a creepy motel, and not to play with the Ouija board when I am tresspassing with my friends in an abandoned & haunted insane asylum.

I do need to throw Once in my queue, I've heard good things about it. I'll have to look up Dear Frankie. Thanks for the heads up :)

McDormand is one of my favorite actors. She sailed under the radar for so long.

I certainly have a great respect for her, especially after seeing her in this. It wasn't a hard role to play I think, but I love the way she pulled it off.
