Arriving in Waterford, Ireland

I arrived in Waterford today after a two hour car ride. It's been a great day weather-wise. The hotel has been bending over backward for me due to a snafu. They put me in an amazing top floor room, complete with balcony that faced the River Suir in Waterford. I was getting ready to go out when I tried to lock the balcony door and it wouldn't lock. I share the balcony with two other rooms and there is a gate, but it's small and easy jumped. I called down to tell them that I wanted to switch rooms as I didn't feel safe to leave my computer and luggage in an unsecured room.

So they moved me to the third floor that required stairs to climb even with the elevator. The young lady from the desk forgot to give me the keys and the manager brought them back up. The room was much smaller, but still kinda cool. I tried hooking up to the internet and it wouldn't work. It turns out the room was recently renovated and the internet hadn't been tested. So another call was made and they moved me to another room, still nice, but the manager said they were going to fix the door in the balcony room so I could have it back. When I told him it wasn't necessary to move me again, he said that I could look at the room again tomorrow and decide if I wanted the bigger room. I feel like a king as they really are going above and beyond to get me my original room.

So I went out to grab lunch at Subway (hey it's in Ireland, it's a bit different.. sort of...). I stopped by the tourist office to get a map and souvenirs. While the lady was ringing up the purchases, I looked over at a handsome handy guy who was working on the lights. I gave him a smile and a nod... he gave me back a WINK! I was a bit... well... surprised and wondering if wink = (nod + smile), or something more.

I walked around a bit and decided to visit The Waterford Museum of Treasures, which also happens to be in the same building as the tourist center. My handsome winking handyman wasn't there anymore (darn it), but the museum was pretty neat, though flash photography isn't allowed, which means some photos turned out dark.

After the museum, I walked the strip again, taking some shots of things around town and doing a bit of shopping. I passed the bus station where I had a transfer on my way to New Ross a couple of years ago. The weather is much better this round.

Work starts up again tomorrow and it's going to be a busy couple of days. This weekend, I'm planning on hitting the Waterford Crystal factory for a tour (I've heard they don't allow photos, but we'll see) and Sunday is going to be a train ride to Kilkenny to see the Kilkenny Castle.
