Mistaken Identity
Jan. 31st, 2008 03:24 pmA very odd thing happened to me today at lunch. I went out with a few co-workers to a nearby deli. While I was standing at the salad bar, waiting for my pizza slice to be warmed up, I caught a glimpse of this guy watching me.
The guy was a handsome, slender guy, about my height, brown hair, no facial hair, and dressed in a suit and tie. At first I thought he was just looking my way, but then he smiled at me and nodded his head. I thought to myself, "this is the most blatant cruising I've ever seen if that's what he's doing."
The man walked up to me with a big grin on his face. I was wondering if maybe we had met before somewhere, at the bar or a movie outing or a party, but I was drawing a blank.
"How are you doing?" he said, shaking my hand and smiling.
"I'm good," I replied, "You look sort of familiar. Do I know you?"
"Oh yeah," he stated, "I went to X, but you went to another school."
"I'm sorry, but who do you think I am," I asked, realizing that he has me mistaken for someone else.
"Well, what's your name?" he asked.
I told him my name and the realization hit him too. I explained to him that I didn't go to high school in this area.
"Wow! You look EXACTLY like this guy I know from school! A dead ringer, really! I am so sorry to have bothered you," he stammered, still smiling.
"Oh, its not a problem," I smiled back, "it was nice to meet you.." and he walked away to his table to eat.
The odd thing is that he is not the first person who has done this to me. Apparently I have a non-relative twin, doppleganger, clone, and/or imposter running about town. And I don't have any relatives in this area, so I know it's not a family thing. Kinda strange, but kinda cool...
.. and I got to meet a cute guy in the process.
